The room was very clean and had the necessities. Location seems great as it is walkable to the Village. Unfortunately, my research and experience tells me that this area by the Carlsbad Village Inn (has many bad reviews) may be one to stay away from. My wife and I was approached by a guy walking into the hotel and he took the elevator with us. First sight of him, he was hanging out in the parking lot with a female. He left her to walk in with us, struck up a conversation which seemed friendly, but felt as though he was qualifying us for something. He even mentioned he wasn't staying at the hotel. He was holding 2 obviously used purses which he was selling. He also asked if my wife's brand name purse is real. He asked if we both spoke English. We kept a friendly conversation with him and he went the other direction on the 3rd floor. This probably wouldn't have felt as shady if this wasn't the 2nd time we were approached by an odd character the night before while we were walking back from the village. He asked us which side of the street was the proper direction to walk. This was confusing but I said "oh you can walk on either side". He seemed almost surprised that I spoke English, and said "alright, that was good" as he walked off. We felt uneasy so we walked into a gas station for a bit before continuing. We're left with uneasy feelings like what if we didn't speak English? For context, we're Asian and the guy at the hotel said he was from Dominican Republic.
