We are in tier 4 lockdown, but had a home emergency on 23/12: our gas and electricity was cut off because of a wiring fault when our smart meter was installed. Luckily we found refuge in Jurys Inn Milton Keynes, which was open for essential travellers. Only 2 miles away from home, we could stay somewhere warm during lockdown. During the 4 nights it was closed over Xmas, we were able to stay with the relatives that we had been self-isolating to visit before Boris's Xmas rule change. Obviously it's a very basic service that Jurys are now offering, but it is very welcome when one's home is uninhabitable. (Another hotel chain was a lot less sympathetic, and wanted either a key worker letter, or a homeless letter from the council. I simply ask: how do you get one of those at 1700 on 23/13?) After this crisis, I will continue to use Jurys Inn because of the friendly and understanding staff but it's doubtful we will ever use the other chain.
