Famous for (allegedly) being the birthplace of rugby, this Warwickshire town has superb rail links to London, Birmingham and Birmingham International Airport. This has been an inhabited area since the Iron Age, although it did not develop considerably until the opening of the railways in the Victorian era. The town has several accommodation providers ranging from luxury hotels to very affordable inns and family-run B&Bs, many of which provide free WiFi access and free parking for guests' convenience.
The Webb Ellis Rugby Football Museum
One of the main attractions in the town, this small exhibition gallery is dedicated to William Web Ellis, the man who has often been credited with the invention of rugby. Here, you can observe plenty of interesting rugby-related memorabilia in a building that was actually used as a shoe and book-making business in the 19th Century. Just minutes from the museum is The Rugby Hotel, which has an excellent restaurant and comfortable, stylish rooms with free WiFi and flat-screen TVs with digital channels.
The Rugby Art Gallery and Museum
The Rugby Art Gallery and Museum opened its doors in 2000 and has an impressive collection of British contemporary art, as well as numerous ancient artefacts dating back to the Roman period. It hosts the work of numerous esteemed painters, from German-born British painter Lucian Freud, to Op-Art painter Bridget Riley. A popular hotel nearby is the high-end Dunchurch Park Hotel, which is in a historic house and has free WiFi, a fully equipped conference centre and immaculately presented rooms.
The Oxford Canal
A popular recreational boating route, the 78-mile Oxford Canal links Rugby with Oxford and Coventry, and was designed in the late Georgian period. It was once a busy commercial trading route, although it is now predominantly used for leisure purposes and is considered to be one of the most attractive canal routes in the country. Close to the canal is the enchanting Brownsover Hall Hotel, which also has free parking, free WiFi and elaborately decorated, spacious rooms.
