Great location, right on the lake. We had a ground floor room with direct access to the lake and a small patio area to sit and relax. Large, clean, comfortable room with seperate bedroom and lounge area. Nice breakfast but didnt try the restaurant in the evening.

Beds were comfortable and room was clean. No laundry bags in the bedroom, no soap by the bath. Soap was attached in the shower. No milk in the fridge for tea and coffee. Had to ask for extra glasses. Quiet setting and peaceful by the lake. Not bad overall

Hotel and room are dated. Shower stall is very small with no removable shower head despite the spacious bathroom. Not too clean as evidenced by the stains on bedsheet, ceiling and shower tile gouge etc. Jacuzzi with no water! About 20 minutes drive to town center where the eateries are. The road close to hotel is very dark with no street lights. Hence driving late at night was not too comfortable. Deluxe breakfast buffet. Great Lake view. Quiet and relaxing! Not too far from Te Puia.

It was old and tired. Things did not work well. Room was heavily bleached so we needed to sleep with door open. Staff only half interested at best. Gym was old and broken. Way overpriced and over rated. Not a good experience

Facility is a little dated and could do with a bit of a facelift, but the staff were friendly and helpful, my room was in a good condition, and I spent a much needed restful night there with room service offered when the front desk lady realised how tired I was upon arrival.

Stunning lake location but that makes for no alternative amenities. Excellent rooms but the pool was freezing even in summer. Good range of gym equipment but some of it needs minor repairs.

Dirty and stained toilet, poor cleanness standards. Webs and mould on windows and curtains. Dead insects everywhere. Very disappointed with the condition of the room for over $300 a night on a twin room. Only good thing is the lake view looking out.

We had a lovely stay, but the room seemed to need a bit of maintenance. The lakeside setting is beautiful, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall it was good, and I would recommend it for the setting alone, but I was a little disappointed in the room considering the cost.

Where to start. No soap, dead flies on roof and light busted in bathroom. But greatness sin was leaving our door open. If I was in Australia I would have demanded refund. New Zealand great place to visit but this place let us down.

More run down than pictures suggest. Pool VERY tiny and there aren't really activities. A lot could have been forgiven if staff was slightly more friendly. Such an odd experience. Servicable, but not really a vacation. Just a place to sleep, and leave quickly.

A Charming Retreat with Room for Improvement
The staff at VR Rotorua Lake Resort were fantastic! They were super friendly and helpful, making me feel welcomed from the moment I arrived. It's a quiet spot on the lake, perfect for a romantic getaway, but be warned, it's a bit far from the main drag in Rotorua. The hotel itself is getting a bit long in the tooth. The rooms and bathrooms could definitely use a refresh, especially the showers. I had to do the hot cold dance every time I wanted to take a shower! Plus, for the price, you might find nicer places closer to the action. Overall, VR Rotorua had its pros and cons. If you're looking for a peaceful escape with awesome staff, it's a good choice. But if you want modern amenities and easy access to Rotorua's sights, you might want to keep searching. Here are some of the things I liked: Super friendly staff Peaceful location on the lake Nice outdoor pool Here are some things to keep in mind: Rooms and bathrooms are a bit outdated Far from the city center and main attractions Price might be a bit high for the current condition

Absolutely stunning location. Well worth to pay extra for a lake view. It was magical, we wished we stayed longer . Even though there were things in the rooms that could be improved, like no working room safe or old style taps with no mixer , the setting totally makes up for it. Beautiful and if we ever pass this area again we will certainly go back.

Pretty average. The grounds are simply beautiful, and the lake view from my room was amazing. The interior of the property could use a minor rehab. Fresh painting. Shower grout replacement. Light fixture updating. I made a dinner reservation for 9 o’clock, but reception told me that if they were not busy enough that they might close early so decided to eat offsite. So I guess do not plan for their dining hours to be respected. Very easy drive to town and to most area tourist attractions. I’m happy I stayed here, but I just think they’re missing some opportunities to improve the property and to make more money.

This was once a luxury resort and it shows, it now looks a bit weatherbeaten and worn although there is a program of decoration and repair going on, i hope it brings success because i enjoyed our stay here and had best night's sleep since starting travels a month ago, for the cost it outstrips any of the places I've stayed so far and we used the sauna and hottubs which were very relaxing.

I wouldn't choose to stay here again. The hotel is old and is in need of renovation, although they were doing some painting while we were there. Check in time is 3pm! where most hotels and motels check in usually 2pm. We arrived at 2.40pm and our room was not ready! therefore we had to wait about 15mins until it was! We had to book for dinner that night, even though they were not fully booked in the hotel, the restaurant was open at 6pm. We went to the restaurant at 5.45pm to find that they wouldn't let us in just to have a pre-dinner drink! Given the fact that there are no other restaurant or bars any where near, so unless you drive all the way back into central Rotorua - well you're stuck! The cleanliness of the place was below par! So no we won't be choosing to stay here again!
