The pools and outside space are lovely at its very picturesque but the room was very dated and the bathroom was in poor condition with glass slats missing. The air-conditioning is old and struggled to cool the size of room. The shampoo and shower gel dispenser was broken when i contacted reception the receptionist was unhelpful. People smoke everywhere and even an employee who has a room in a no smoking area thinks it ok with children around.

Room : 0 cleanliness i had the bungalow room , it was dust everywhere , mini bar looks like it was never clean for years to be honest , the bathroom was quiet okay. Restaurant : the quality of the foods was really poor , there was flies everywhere , you couldn’t identify what was what because there was no sign or no identification. Spa : it was a let down when we walk to the spa to spa table was disgusting, there was no privacy at all my it’s across of the gym , i don’t know should be calm a gym at all , it’s completely empty. Bar : it’s quiet okay they have a good selection of drinks , definitely enjoy it Overall this place have so much potential to be great , the views is amazing , they really have to step up ! the pool is amazing , the bathroom pool not at all they should have someone 24/7 there to keep it cleaning it. The staff is very friendly and helpful they help and told where i should go eat outside of the resort …… they shouldn’t call this place a resort because they have only 1 restaurants beside the view they have nothing to offer lol

Beautiful setting.. average rooms.. poor service
Lovely setting with its own private cove perfect for snorkeling and swimming. Stunning to look at! Rooms are average. Whole place needs a bit of an upgrade.. front desk lady was rude and not helpful at all.. Buffet breakfast is very good, but they seem short staffed so get there early to eat, avoid the crowd and the shortages of certain things. 1 swimming pool is closed, the ‘gym’ is a treadmill, a couple dumbbells and a pull up bar that is falling off the wall (dangerous). $10 to rent an umbrella and 2 sunbeds at the cove.

Kalypso, Plakias
Our stay at Kalypso in October 2018, was very good. We really used the hotel as a base for the local area, you need to be aware that it is not in walking distance from Plakias and about 40 minutes walk from the nearest beaches, so a hire car is essential. Plakias is 8 Euro each way in a taxi. We had an initial problem in that due to a recent storm, the hotel was overbooked. This resulted in us being allocated a poor standard room for a night. This was rectified the next day. The initial receptionist was helpful, but just showed us the room without telling us why it was so bed, resulting in our request to be upgraded to what we had booked. All other staff in the hotel were very good and friendly. Our new room was great, cleaned daily, with a sea view and a balcony. The bed was comfortable. We did not use the pools, but swam a few mornings in the lagoon area, which again was good. I cannot comment on the hotel entertainment. I would not use the hotel again, due to the need for taxis if you are to have a drink in one of the local village restaurants as 16 Euro is a big increase on a 30 to 50 Euro meal.

Beautiful grounds, pool and views. No wifi in rooms, only intermittent in common areas. Warned by staff that water is not drinkable and should use bottled. TV in room was 12 inches and seemed like salvaged from hospital rooms 15-20 years ago..To get to spa/gym, needed to climb up 200 steps up muntain. Staff were not friendly or very helpful. If driving, if you miss a small sign, you will get lost and the gps will not help since roads are un-named. VERY dark and winding roads to facility.

Really enjoyed our stay. The girls on reception desk were particularly helpful to me on several occasions. Hard workers. Nice breakfasts. 3 separate Swimming Pools so you could still swim even if some guests had turned the main pool into a noisy Water Polo pitch most of the day. Nearby Plakias not too touristy, but offers just enough to wander around a couple of nights. 10-12 Taverners, 10 -12 other shops. Nice beaches. We did the walk from hotel to Plakias beach. Not an hour, more like 90 minutes and quite testing. Need to be fit. We were wearing just sandals and shorts, but some people coming the opposite way were geared up with what looked like Mountaineering sticks and clothing. Didn't see any snakes, spiders or scorpions.

Beautiful setting, excellent pools, spacious rooms
For the time it takes to drive to it (1h30m on not the best roads from Chania airport...) it certainly delivers once you arrive there! Go for the all-inclusive option if you're provided with the option, you will not regret it. We were on "full breakfast and full dinner" where we did expect to also get a free alcoholic drink, apparently not included. The views are stunning. Don't restrict yourself to staying by the (3) pools. There's lots to see around, the hotel grounds are immense! Staff (reception, bar, cleaning) are lovely and (mostly) helpful.

The most beautiful location of the hotel!
The hotel is in a very pretty place, with no other hotels nearby, which means that the stay is peaceful, calm and without any traffic noise. No sunbed booking as there are enough of them for everyone and an amazing view when having dinner or breakfast. Highly recommended!

Good location not so great rooms.
This hotel is well worth a visit for a short amount of time. Before you set of I would advise researching the journey. The roads aren't the best and sometimes get extremely narrow. However, on arrival you will be impressed with your surroundings. There is plenty of room for parking cars and you are greeted with some fabulous views. When I'm reception the staff are friendly and informative. The wifi is only accessible in reception and isn't great. The swimming pools are in good condition and offer some good views too. There is also an area where you can get into the sea! Bringing a snorkel along is advisable and there is plenty of opportunity to explore. For those more active there are some great walks and activities put on by the hotel. Where this hotel falls short is their accommodation. The rooms are clean and spacious but very dated. The bathroom and kitchen area was in need of some major TLC! The tv is also very dated and barely works. If spending anytime in the room then bring along your own entertainment. The restaurant is also very basic. They offer a buffer for breakfast and dinner but the quality of food wasn't the best. Although there was lots to choose from if you have a choice I would venture into a different town/ village. The bar area was good and offered a wide selection of drinks which were very reasonably priced. Overall, we felt this was a good short stay and would come back if in the area.

Our room was absolutely awful nothing like the pictures, the scenery and pools were very beautiful but the whole experience was ruined by the state of cleanliness of our room. Told the hotel staff about our problems no one was willing to help. There was a dumped trolley with rubbish in it outside our room too which was very displeasing for the eye.

Beautiful secluded location with great views. You need to be a confident driver to access it along narrow mountain roads with sheer drops! Great sun loungers arranged at spots down the cliff face. Heat is bearable because of the wind, though it makes the pools very cold. Room was lovely and stylish.

3rd time at Kalypso
The greatest thing about Kalypso is the pools and beach, as well as the location, we love Plakias. The main problem with the hotel is the old decor of the rooms and public areas. It's a shame since this hotel could easily be the gem of the South of Crete. Major renovation is desperately needed...

Great location down a slim and pot holed filled road but the hotel was ok in the end and had some great swimming pools, plus a cool entrance into the sea that you could snorkle easily and see some fantastic fish. Does need a little tlc though especially the bathroom areas.

Off the Beaten Path
Kalypso is built around a lagoon and is reachable by its own road. Their bus goes into town regularly but having your own car is an advantage. Rooms are rented weekly but cleaned daily - a bonus. The staff are friendly without gushing. The bathrooms are in good working order. Water is drinkable. At least we drank it and were fine. The big pool is close to 50M, two smaller outdoor pools and a smaller and heated indoor pool plus lagoon are all salt water. Pool bar at big pool open 10-6pm. There is a tennis court, spa, volleyball/badminton court, amphitheatre, mini-mart, snorkelling, scuba diving and some trails. Wifi is free in the lounge and at the pool - in rooms it is extra. The lounge has nightly entertainment. Plakias is a nice town nearby, although walking there would take some time. The mountain around the hotel is volcanic rock . You might want to sample the food in Plakias. The night sky is spectacular. Kalypso is also child and pet friendly. There are also a lot of stairs as it is built on a hillside, and is not wheelchair friendly. We recommend this resort to people without mobility problems. .

Some positives and negatives
A bit of a strange one this one.... Located 10-12 minutes drive out of (definitely unwalkable) on remote headland, down a skinny road (and dangerously curvy and dark at night). A bit like an 80s cult hideout village, many of those who visit are "all drink and all food" package european families (boy do they eat, and it shows). Positives are the coastal vista and unique rock pool swimming area with great sun lounges and small reef with surrosing fish numbers, easy and safe for kids to explore, and great pool area. Negatives are the remote location which is impossible without car or scooter, tiring sports facilities (such as fitness are is ancient and unusable), 80s looking constructions which make the rooms look tired, and something not quite right about the staff, such as smoking in the open office area at reception which makes that area stink and seriously slow check in andcheck out procedures. I am a seasoned traveller, and this place was a bit confusing!

Wonderful location
I stayed with my 4 year old son. The staff were all really helpful and friendly. The location and views were amazing. The room was big and clean and air conditioned with a big terrace. The bathroom wasn't special but was perfectly fine. There are 2 smaller pools and one larger pool. I really liked that they were salt water. There is a natural gully into the sea with no beach but good for swimming. 10 mins by taxi to Plakias. There are good meal timings and I really liked the food. There is also a mini market shop within the hotel. Guests with mobility issues need to take care as it is set into the mountain so a bit of a climb to get anywhere. I intend to return as it was friendly, had brilliant facilities and stunning views with friendly staff.

Catastrophe
My stay was 1 night more than needed!! If I had the choice- I would not have spent even this night in this hotel and I would have left at the same moment. Because we got the room so late (18:30 !!!!) and driving back from the hotel to any other big city is about 1.5 drive I had no choice but to spend the first night in this "4 star" hotel.

Kalypso Cretan Village
A bit off the beaten track, but a beautiful location, nice sized rooms, and a really good range of food for breakfast in the morning. Quite a few swimming pools, but also a sea inlet for swimming in too (although I didn't actually go in). Probably best located for people who want somewhere just to chill out in the hotel and surroundings, rather than going out to explore other bits of the island.

The Kalypso is a mixed bag
The facility is extremely scenic, but it's not conveniently located. You can't get a pool chair to save your life because people put towels on them in the middle of the night. The pools are salt water pools, which was rather strange. The bathrooms smell because there's no p trap. Our first night the air conditioner was broken and it was sweltering in the room. We didn't get a new room until 1:00 am. Also, it's on the water but there's no real beach there.

Away from it all...
If you would like to spend your vacation away from it all, the Kalypso is where you would like to be. It is located between a mountain and a cliff on the Libyan Sea. The grounds are beautiful, including the swimming lagoon. We thought there was going to be a sand beach based off of the description of the resort, but you will need to travel a few kilometers away to find the sand beach. The terrain is difficult to navigate because of how mountainous it is...for someone with back problems, walking up many stairs and inclines could be troublesome. The hotel rooms are fine, but the bathrooms need some work...probably some new plumbing. The pools are beautiful but salt water...so if chlorine and salt water are your thing, enjoy the pools. Please note, though, the guests are allowed to claim chairs near the pool for the entire day, so if you do not claim one during the middle of the night, you will not enjoy the comfort of a chair. The resort offered a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner that was plentiful, but not necessarily kid friendly. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful, especially the staff that was Greek. We did have a good time at the Kalypso, but we do not see ourselves going back there for another vacation.

Mixed feelings
Overall we enjoyed our stay as we had a car and we could go to Plakios for lunch and dinner (quite reasonable prices compared to other European euro rip-offs). The hotel location was stunning with the sea, the pools, the rocks and sun beds and as we spent nearly all our time outside, the poor quality of the hotel rooms did not detract from our stay. However for the record - the bathroom was not 4 star quality by any means. Appalling shower, curtain kept falling down, water not always hot and towels of very poor quality. In addition we did not get a double bed as promised - we had twins pushed together so we kept falling down the middle! TV all Greek (we didn't care but some might), no tea and coffee service, room cleaning poor e.g. glasses not washed and on the last day the beds not even made. They forgot our hand towels three times even though we complained. We did however get another pillow after asking - wow! Outside the room, breakfast was average - cooked food was cold most mornings. We had dinner once and very average. Went out after that. Tennis court also looked very poor quality. Pools nice and clean and fun for kids. Too much sun bed bagging but that's life. Evening entertainment - seemed quite lively. Lots of Poles staying there who were very civil and well mannered. Service at the main bar was very slow the night we stayed in. Needed more staff there.

Kalypso Cretan Village - view + value for money
Great view from this hotel. stuff almost did not know a word in English, but we recovered that... For two persons it is a great room with twin bed. it also includes a 3rd bed for a child. The TV is tiny 14" screen. was tough to see anything, compared to my LCD at home. I guess they count that you will do outdoors activities all day - sea, pool, gym, massage, so you will be too tired to watch TV... The signs to the hotel could be better, but asking few people helped us find the hotel. Breakfast, which was the only meal we had there, was a buffet, just little bit more than the very basic, and its quality was also basic minus (the orange juice which I could not drink, coffe - just the Grek coffe with no alternative, etc). The hotel is a very good value for the money.

Best Hotel in Southern Crete!
When booking this hotel, I had some reservations, since there were a few bad reports in the past. My wife and I wanted to visit Crete and celebrate my 40th birthday in the romantic and gorgeous beaches and mountains. Well, Kalypso has been the greatest surprise of our last vacation. This was my 7th visit to Crete in the past 10 years, my favorite destination in the Mediterranean for vacationing, motorbike trips and both couples and family vacations. Kalypso is by far the best hotel I have stayed in on the island, especially for that price range! First, L O C A T I O N !!!! wow, a small paradise in the mountains, with that gorgeous fjord-like beach, simply heaven. Most of the hotel has been recently renovated; restaurant, lobby, terrace and pool furniture is brand new. Room furniture (bed, sofa, table & chairs) are brand new. The room was huge and nicely decorated, clean and very well maintained, and so was the bath room. Huge terrace with sea view was perfect for having a drink in the afternoon. Breakfast (we took BB) was gorgeous, with so many choices of yogurt, cereals fruits and vegetables, cheeses, meats and freshly made eggs and pastries. We will surely return to the Kalypso and its great hotel and nice staff. The proximity to Plakias was also a bonus, as it is one of the best small villages to visit in the southern area of Crete. A walking distance from the Kalypso are few of the best beaches in Crete. Getting a rental car would certainly widen the activity options in the area. Thank you Kalypso for a great vacation!

Complexe vieillissant
