### Casa Theros Maroulas

Maroulas is located approximately 10 kilometers away from the city of Rethymno, at an altitude of 240 meters, in a densely populated area of olive trees, with an unobstructed view of the Cretan sea. The Minoan artifacts found, such as a late Minoan cemetery with carved tombs, reveal that the area was inhabited since the Minoan period. The settlement, with its present form, dates back to the 13th century and has a fortified layout and distinctive architecture.  
In addition to the archaeological finds, visitors can admire a plethora of other sights, tastes, scents of herbs and flowers, walks in this unique village, in narrow streets, arches, and towers, which are unique throughout Crete. The coolness offered by the majestic plane trees in the natural water source, the ascent to the hill of Prophet Elias with the beautiful sunset view, the dozens of olive trees and other endemic plants, such as thyme, oregano, sage, chamomile, and dittany make Maroulas an ideal summer sanctuary. Fountains and wells, old churches scattered throughout the village, impressive olive presses all capture the eye, but what really impresses visitors are the two towers of the village.
