We splurged and stayed at the WD while in town for a Duke bball game. It's an iconic property and I'd recommend staying at least once while visiting Duke. Location is a ten min walk to the west campus and all of the sports facilities. It's an older hotel so some things lacking. The issues I had was the poor communication with the front desk evening shift. I had arranged three times to have our rollaway set up as we were arriving late and of course it wasn't. We had to wait an hr for delivery - midnight. The front desk didn't share any details upon checkin. Nothing about wifi, am coffee or game room. The second night there was no hot water. When I called down to report it she said they were aware and were working on fixing it. I couldn't believe they hadn't notified guests until you called and complained. Virtually allowing guests to jump into a cold shower only to discover no hot water as I did. They eventually sent a text. It wasn't fixed until 1am, so everyone had to go without a shower.. after walking 7 miles around campus and enjoying a sweaty Cameron basketball game. It was fine, but I was surprised management didn't offer any compensation for the inconvenience. The best part of our stay was the housekeeping staff and the breakfast staff. Housekeeping straightens up the room as if you're staying at The Plaza! The buffet is delicious and the chef's and servers make it a wonderful experience. I am happy we tried it, although very pricey. Unfortunately we won't be back.

Loved the hotel. Went to a Duke game. It's location is great. History of hotel is interesting. Loved the Bull Durham Bar.

This hotel is very nice but it’s very outdated. Just needs some overall maintenance: paint on the doors, just a face lift. The amenities we’re average. Really wished we would have at least had a mini fridge in the room. Bathrooms are average for the price tag your expecting the Biltmore but I would have been happier at just a Hyatt or Marriot.

This place is old and tired compared to 21C and others. I couldn’t even keep a hair drying in my room as housekeeping kept taking it. It really needs updating.

This is the best place to stay close to the Duke undergrad campus, law school or FUQUA. With the gift shop closed early they should have a vending machine somewhere.

It was very nice. We stayed in the family suite which had a king bed and two bunk beds around the corner from the main room in an alcove. We stayed after a admissions Duke tour and rushed out to get to chapel service at Duke in the morning, so we didn’t get to enjoy the amenities of the hotel much.

The property used to be a 5-star hotel but it clearly has not been maintained and is in desperate need of major renovations. The room was dated with scratches all over the wooden floor, light bulbs burnt out in the bathroom and cup stains on the nightstands. The elevator cabins were trashed too.
