Disappointed

We spent there 4 nights from the 15th to 19th August. The beach and swimming pools are awesome but all the rest is a nightmare. The service and food are horrible. Except for 2 or 3 people (Stalyn, Mirabell and New York) the staff is not really working, they only look for tips. The rooms are big but with an ugly smell of mold. Changed the room twice. A waste of money.

Great getaway. Take note of a couple things first

Pros: -Great concierge staff! Christina is a true GEM! -Service and entertainment staff are terrific. -Food is delicious! Eat at every restaurant.
Cons: Pool/beach bar staff are not always warm and welcoming. Drinks take awhile to be delivered on the beach. Housekeeping is satisfactory.
Location: 10 - 15 minute car trip from Punta Cana airport. We didn't venture off the property but lots of good excursions offered by resort.
My boyfriend and I traveled to DR to treat ourselves to a much-needed vacation. Our experience at Sanctuary started off a bit rocky. We booked one of the villas with butler service to treat ourselves to an added piece of luxury while we were on vacation. The villa was on the private side of the beach with amazing views. However, our A/C went out the second day we were there, our toilet kept running and our sink was leaking, eventually flooding the floor. It rained one evening and the entire bedroom floor was soaked from rain coming in from the patio doors. After three days of this, things finally turned around. I spoke with Christina in Concierge about our concerns and she did not hesitate to switch us to another villa that was actually a step above the villa we booked online. Once in the other suite, the concierge staff checked in with us to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. It turned our whole vacation around. Throughout our stay, we had amazing food and superb service, especially from the staff in the restaurants. The entertainment staff kept us smiling and laughing throughout our stay. If you are looking to relax, have fun or celebrate an occasion, it's a great place to consider. It can be a party resort or an extended spa day - depends on what you make of it. We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday on our last day/evening at the resort and the staff pulled out all the stops to make it a wonderful occasion. We will definitely return.

Beautiful Hotel with amazing staff

The hotel was beautiful. The beach and the pools were clean and wasn't packed. Each restarsunts and bar had great servers and were very friendly and attentive. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

Buena instalacion pero....

El hotel es bonito pero realmente carece de mantenimiento. Cristales rotos, puertas que no cierran, cortinas viejas, aire acondicionado que no enfria, las piscinas no estan tan limpias, pocas actividades de entretenimiento. Las cosas positivas: excelente comida, personal muy agradable.

Beautiful facility

Pros: Helpful and friendly staff, beautiful architecture, food. Nice swimming pools.
Cons: Mosquitos control
Location: It's about 20 min away to Adventure park: Zip-line, Blue hole swimming, Cave exploration. Snorkling trip to Catalina Island take all day (2hrs of fun)
Very beautiful and distinct architecture of the resort. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The hostesses at the restaurants great you by your name, which makes you feel special. The food is delicious. The menu, however, is limited in all restaurants. I found only one or two dishes I liked in each place: Skirt stake in Blue Marlene sea food restaurant is the way to go, Chicken breast rolls - in Capriccio Italian restaurant, Lamb chops - in Stake house: it takes 30 min to actually get your salad/appetizer from the time you order in Stake houseWe went there few times, and every time we had to wait that long. However, some tables would get their food faster. It depends how proactive your waiter is. We observed how some waiters would demend the orders from the kitchen. Room service is not great: wait is 40-50 min, food comes on the cold site. If you decide to do room service, get Sanctuary sandwich. It's the only decent dish on the menu. The Buffet is the best place to eat (no wait, large variety of food, and every thing is delicious. Unfortunately, it is open only for breakfast and lunch only, and one night a week for Dominican buffet. The best rooms to stay - at Castle: newer rooms, better insulation, air conditioner relativelly could keep cool temperature - 73F-75F, less mosquitos. At 1st they put us at 1029 with leafy roof. We woke up next morning with 20-30 mosqito bites. Mosquito repellent "Off" did't really worked (Zika virus concern). Better beech 3 min away walking

This is a very quiet adult only resort.

This is a very quiet adult only resort. The staff is extremely accommodating,friendly and go out of their way to make your stay pleasurable. It seems that a lot of the people were on honeymoons for anniversary trips. When we went on excursions and visited with other people from other resorts we did not find anyone happy where they were saying except for sanctuary. Remember men to bring slacks because two of the restaurants require them. There is a small minimart and souvenir store on the property but it does not have a lot to offer bring all your essentials. We stayed in the castle because it was a quiet intimate area of the resort. The pool area is very quiet,your room comes with a full-time butler that will take care of all your needs. Have fun but remember you are in a third world country.

Perfect size resort - spacious, quiet and romantic

Pros: Selection of restaurants was nice to vary our experience. We loved the trio who sang on various nights and circulated throughout the restaurants
Cons: We are not big drinkers but frozen drinks are welcome on hot days. Definitely felt they watered down drinks, which was disappointing.
Location: We stayed onsite throughout the week and relaxed poolside. True ocean goers might be disappointed with small beach, but we loved the private huts!
Stayed for 5 nights in February in the Castle section. We loved the unique architecture and our room was lovely, including a large patio overlooking the castle pool, with a view of the beach and ocean. Jose was our concierge who was amazingly helpful each day, including helping to reserve pool chairs or beds at the beach area. He was excellent at checking in with us to see if there was anything we needed and he had a wonderful, outgoing personality. We also loved Karen who greeted us at the Blue Marlin and "encouraged" our Spanish, and jokingly helped us rehearse our dinner arrival in Spanish. I've seen other reviews where folks complain about tipping. It is not required, but come on...this is easy to do and very much appreciated by all staff. I made sure to bring 5s and 10s, as well as dollars to tip for drinks. Again, not needed, but we felt it improved the experience so much more and didn't really add up to much for our stay. Viewed as a good investment to enhance our experience.
