This was my first all-inclusive experience, so it is possible it just isn't designed for me and my opinion is meaningless for the target market. Thats said, the food was terrible. The only thing i had all week that seemed made to order were my eggs from room service. The menus at all the restaurants are very limited, which is fine if it allows the kitchen to focus on doing a few things well. They do nothing well, or, at least by the time the food is served it is a reheated mess.
At $61 per person it will be hard to top all you can eat lobster party as the worst value of my life. They ran out of lobster before i even got in line and getting even 2 small overcooked warm water tails on my plate required begging the cook and then jostling with the voracious jersey shore extras who were lining up at the trough for more.
The wine selection at all the restaurants is a joke. The $5.00 california reds from the bottom shelf of your local grocery store are available for $41-50. You can spend more for a bottle, but there just aren't any decent wines to choose from at any price. Also, once you order your wait staff will become fixated on the wine and having you sign all the paperwork for the upcharge. It's a whole process that mondavi vinyards doesn't warrant enduring.
Everything nailed down at Now Larimar is nice. The beach, pools, rooms and view were all top notch. But, it is a gilded cage as far as food. Leaving the resort for better options is not easy (but I did.) I lost 3 lbs.
