We were able to walk to many interesting sites. Many restaurants and shops were in the neighborhood. The hotel front desk staff spoke English and was always pleasant and very helpful. Breakfast was available in the hotel cafeteria.
The hotel staff was nice and attentive, and recommended me bunch of sightseeing tours and things to do while in Madrid. After returning couple of hours later from my visit to Prado museum, I found AC in my room not functioning. There was a bit of inconvenience switching room (then switching back), moving up and down between rooms and the lobby, but the hotel staff tried everything to fix it and eventually got fixed (apparently power problem with the whole building or something...) and I was offered complementary breakfast (4eur) for my troubles. Overall, although facility wasn't superb(mostly AC problem. room itself was more than what I expected looking at the pricetag), great staff and great room quality(for price) made up for that shortcoming.
Excellent location close to plaza mayor and Santa Ana and museums. Also walking distance to great choice of restaurants and bars. Staff are fairly low key in a good sense but extremely helpful if you need anything or any advice. Hotel was ideal for our four day stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Catalonia Puerta del Sol. From the moment we entered until the time we left, we had only positive experiences. The front desk staff was pleasant and efficient. We even got upgraded to a better room than we paid for based on our comments on the booking page. The lobby is welcoming and sophisticated. Our room was sleek and updated and very clean. The location of the hotel is ideal, walking distance to important sites and good restaurants. We will definitely stay here again if we return to Madrid.

"It was close to all the sites we wanted to visit"
We enjoyed the location which was convenient to all the sites we wanted to visit; Prado, Plaza Mayor, Palacio Real and many good local places to eat. The rooms were comfortable but not very modern. The building was very old.The bathroom was very small but there were additional ones throughout. Overall, we had a pleasurable stay.
