This hotel is in a great location for exploring Gothenburg. It's easy to walk from here to many interesting parts of the city. We also really enjoyed our large room, and it even had a balcony.
Perfect location nice comfortable room and lovely breakfast
Breakfast was excellent! Nice rooftop bar. Smaller room but nice amenities. Very central to key points of interest. Fantastic stay here. Highly recommend.
Great value B&B - excellent breakfast. Can be seen as a little basic against a more expensive Hotel however more than adequate for a stay and excellent value for money
Great hotel, fantastic restaurant too They couldn't do enough for us. Had a problem with the TV signal, very same day an engineer appeared and sorted, was not expecting that. Really big rooms. Highly recommend the restaurant downstairs, exquisite food.
The hotel is clean and in great location, the lady at the reception is very nice. The building is old and the room is very simple but most importantly clean.
Quiet area, clean facility, but poor sound insulation in room, because the hotel is almost all wooden structure.
Gothenburg’s famous Poseidon Statue is situated at the southern end of Avenyn, the city’s main shopping thoroughfare. Because the landmark is located near a busy central street, accommodation options are plentiful. Treat yourself to a luxurious hotel just moments away from the Poseidon statue, or choose stylish rooms overlooking the ever-busy Avenyn. You’ll also find a range of cheaper Gothenburg hotels and B&Bs within walking distance of Poseidon.
Created by celebrated Swedish sculptor Carl Milles, this bronze statue of the Greek god of the sea is one of the most iconic pieces of art in Gothenburg. The Posiedon statue stands in the centre of Götaplatsen, a square that functions as an artistic hub for Gothenburg, with three of the city’s biggest artistic venues bordering it.
If you’re based in accommodation near the Poseidon statue, it’s likely to be the first artwork you see in Gothenburg. But you’ll find plenty more in the area. The statue is right outside the Gothenburg Museum of Art, which follows the history of painting from the 15th Century up to the present day and features works by giants such as Picasso and Monet. For more cultural diversion, watch cutting-edge Swedish theatre in the City Theatre or listen to the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in the Concert House.
The trams that rattle along Avenyn, moving to and from the Poseidon statue, are as restless as the street itself. There’s such an abundance of big-name stores and small boutiques on and around this thoroughfare that eager shoppers hardly need to look elsewhere. Whether you’re looking for Nordic fashion, finely roasted coffee or a new book to read, you’ll be able to pick it up while roaming the street.
Avenyn’s nightlife is second only to its shopping, and booking a hotel near the Poseidon statue will put you at the heart of it. Spend an evening hopping between upmarket clubs, sipping cocktails and hitting packed dancefloors.
The Poseidon Statue is a fixed point in a city that is constantly on the move. Start your Gothenburg journey here and you’ll likely find you pass it again and again as you make your way to some of the city’s best shops, museums and theatres.
