Sing along to some of the world’s biggest names in music, laugh until you cry and join the celebrations in this central entertainment venue.

The Portsmouth Guildhall is a majestic building and multi-use entertainment venue in the center of Portsmouth. Attend an event from its array of concerts, conferences, weddings, exhibitions and festivals.

First completed in 1890 in the neoclassical style, the Portsmouth Guildhall hasn’t always been an entertainment venue. Originally it was in use as the town hall and later it was the civic home of the lord mayor. During World War II, Portsmouth was hit particularly hard and in 1941 the building was bombed and destroyed. See its current state, resulting from its rebuilding after the war and reopening in 1959.

Today it is a center for entertainment, with a seating capacity for over 2,000 people. Stand outside and gaze in awe at the magnificent structure, complete with a soaring bell tower. Explore the interior to encounter many of the city’s historical treasures, along with the Zodiac Gallery and several spots to eat and drink.

The guildhall is the perfect venue for entertainment. Many huge names have performed here over the years, from the Beatles and Pink Floyd to Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan. Along with music, you will also find comedy shows and festivals, such as vintage car shows and beer festivals. Look on the website to see what’s scheduled during your visit.

Conveniently located near the Portsmouth and Southsea railway station, the guildhall is very simple to reach. From the station, walk here in just 2 minutes. There are also buses from various places in the city that arrive near the train station. Also close to the guildhall is Victoria Park, a 15-acre (6-hectare) parkland with beautiful flower gardens and trees. Look for the aviary with exotic birds, a cuddling area with rabbits and guinea pigs, a playground area and a café.

See the Portsmouth Guildhall, a landmark building, central to the city’s history and its current culture.
