NOT a 5 Star Hotel
This is not a 5 star hotel - first there is no gym or spa or fitness. I thought to have 5 stars you need this. Second, no hot water and no one seemed to do much about it. We only had hot water the first day of our stay, then the second and third none and the staff was not very helpful. Third, no restaurant - only some pizzas in the room. And finally staff was not very friendly and concierge was clueless, even made us a reservation for a restaurant that was closed. The room was nice, hotel recently remodelled but the overall experience was negative, and this hotel cannot say they are a 5 star nor charge 5 star prices with this service.

We stayed in the hotel near the main square. Parking was provided and the service was excellent. The room was small but very tastefully furnished. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

There were renovation works happening at the property but nothing was mentioned when I booked. The room showed a balcony in the pictures, but there were no balconies in the whole hotel, when I asked staff they said they used pictures from their other hotel in Portofino. In general the whole stay was very average

Lovely and attentive staff, room was spacious but some furniture a little tired. The bathroom only had one sliding door on the shower meaning there was always a big gap, thus a lot of water landing on the floor. Did question this with reception but didn't hear back. Rooms cleaned twice a day though, so we always had towels and mat replaced afterward. Lovely decor and location - would stay again.

Family beach vacation
We had a lovely stay at the hotel, the staff’s attention to details and level of service was second to none. The continental breakfast was also very good. The lobby was very well decorated and the hotel felt very welcoming. Although comfortable, the bathroom smelled of dampness and some of the corners in the shower area were rotting. A small detail that should be looked at.

The hotel was great, although the rooms were smaller than in the pictures. We got a junior suite and it was not at all how it appeared in the pictures. Also, the rooms are a little dated. Besides that, the staff was very friendly and the shuttle to the sister hotel to use the beach us great!

Staff is efficient. Will give them that, but for a VIP upgrade and $1200 a night would expect a shower. None. Bathtub only and no other rooms available. Would recommend seriously considering spending the extra money to go to the Splendido. If set on This hotel, make sure you have a shower.

I loved everything about this hotel. The entire staff (front reception, housekeeping, chauffeur, restaurant, etc.) were all incredibly kind and helpful. I went during my birthday and had dinner at their restaurant,The Eight, next door in Paraggi. The food was delicious and they surprised me with a lovely birthday cake! It was such a special experience. When I return to Portofino, I will definitely book with Eight Hotel.

My family and I stayed at the Eight Hotel Portofino for 7 days. After reading some of the negatives about the hotel, I wanted to cancel my booking. I am so glad that I didn't. All STAFF are excellent. We arrived a bit earlier than check in time and was given our rooms right away. The rooms were also upgraded as I had asked previously if I would be able to. Everything from the linen to the cleanliness was spot on. My daughter was not feeling well one morning and she was unable to complete her breakfast. I were aske if she didn't like her eggs and when I told the staff that she wasn't well, she made her a pot of ginger tea and a glass of freshly squeeze orange juice. Every question that we asked was answered and any request was granted. We are so happy that we stayed at the Eight Hotel Portofino. Since there is a sister hotel in Paraggi that has a restaurant, we were shuttled there. Just want to say a big thank you to the Manager and staff who did their best to make our stay a pleasant one. Would stay here again. It was a 5 star treatment.

It was amazing 2 week stay. I loved everything. Especially breakfast. Pristine. Serving and breakfast. Also amazing hotel had own parking. Also hotel has sister hotel with beach front which was amazing - my husband and I enjoyed greatly. Super friendly staff. I’m writing this in order to have positive review. Because there are not enough great reviews and doesn’t do justice. I really recommend this hotel for stay. It’s in Portofino and close to main center ( 3min walk) and the same time away from crowd. Very small rooms and significantly overpriced. Stay at another local hotel or check the room rate and make sure it is consistent with the hotel facilities. This is supposely a cuve five star hotel but it is really a three star facility. Staff is friendly and helpful overall. Clean rooms.

Booked this hotel for 2 nights for a friend. She arrived late in the evening. Next morning, she woke to find that there was no running water in her room. When she complained to the hotel, they suggested she used the spa to wash, which she did although we could not find any towels. When she returned to the hotel that evening, there was still no water from the shower, and a mere dribble from the sink tap. When we complained to the GM, Christian Del Gatto, there was no satisfactory answer: according to him, the lack of water was due to a town-wide issue. When it was pointed out that her travel companion was staying in another hotel in Portofino and experienced no such problems, he became agitated, intimating they were accusing him of lying. (Also, how was there water in the spa but not in the room if the problem was city-wide?) He did eventually promise compensation but it wasn't resolved how or when this would happen. We therefore tried to follow up with hotels.com. Hotels.com told us the compensation he offered was 30% off a future stay!! This is of course an empty gesture since Portofino is not an everyday destination, nor would we book this hotel again. When we pursued things with him directly, he said he'd asked head office and since they were not responsible for the lack of water, there would be no other offer of compensation. Once they'd pocketed the money, no refund for faulty facilities - in a 5* hotel! BEWARE. Do not pre-pay...

The very accommodating staff made our stay in this especially handsome hotel particularly comfortable. Sweet location away from the tourist crowds. Fabulous breakfast included.

Everyone needs to portofino at least once!
Hotel and location were amazing, great service but very formal, facilities were great especially the steam room in the bathroom! If anything were to be improved it would be having service or a small bar in the garden area! Overall though faultless

Boutique hotel in Portofino
Very nice boutique hotel with chic decor. The price is expensive fir the room size but it was Portofino in height season and they had availability for 2 nights for 4 people. We did not fit comfortably into the Jr. Suite so they upgraded is to a very small suite and brought in a pull out cot. It wasn't comfortable but my kids made it work. The restaurant had a good variety of food fir breakfast including gluten free breads and soy milk. Overall, it's a nice hotel just steps steps away from the busy and touristy Portofino.

For around $xxx a night, we were expecting more. Portofino is famously expensive, but even so, the service and attention to detail should have been better. The staff were friendly but there was just a lack of perfection... we were asked if we wanted a 'welcome drink' when we were checking in, 'that'd be lovely'...we waited then nothing happened. The room was, as expected, small; the view disappointingly dull; the garden, though pretty, relied on AstroTurf grass; the hammock was covered in leaves. These are small things, but paying these prices, I expect things to be just right. However, they parked the car for us, the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was very good, and the location is great. Rolls Royces and Jags outside imply that the rich think these slightly imperfect things are OK, but I was expecting just a little bit better.

The hotel and their staff were exceptional! Francesca who works at the front desk was so accommodating and friendly. Nothing was too much for her, or her colleagues. This hotel is a must for anyone who wants exceptional service and a comfortable room.

It's a cute, little hotel with very friendly concierge staff. Unfortunately we didn't have air conditioning in our room for 3 out of the 5 nights there and it made for unpleasant sleeping conditions and bleary-eyed days.

Lovely Hotel in Picturesque Portofino
Excellent stay. Personalized welcome and boutique-style luxury. Great in-room amenities including Bvlgari lotions and soaps. Complimentary transportation to their sister hotel which features a private beach and restaurant. Hope to return!

This one one of the most expensive hotels I have stayed in and too be honest was pretty average overall. There was no swimming pool, bar, and the 'plunge pool' was a small Jacuzzi. The hotel was located at the top of a hill surrounded by buildings being reconstructed. The room (Junior suite) was extortionate for what it was. There was an apex roof running through the room limiting standing room and really didn't have the wow factor nor should have the name suite attached to it. Their Breakfast was average at best and 'fresh juices' straight out of a carton - If you want real fresh juice which most average hotels offer you get charged extra. There was Bacon and Eggs available on the menu however for some reason I was charged extra for the eggs. My Girlfriend asked for a bacon sandwich which they refused to do. Left feeling perplexed to say the least about the 2 day stay. In all fairness the reception staff were extremely friendly and very helpful.

Wonderful hotel in the heart of Portofino with friendly and very helpful staff. Good room facilities and a wonderful breakfast. The garden is quite small but has enough room for the number of rooms. The spa and sauna area is not particularly well laid out as you can't use the sauna and steam room if there are clients having a treatment - this however is a minor criticism for such a beautiful boutique hotel.

Wonderful place to stay for vacation in beautiful location. Our room reservation was upgraded upon arrival which was great. However, the beautiful room we were provided did not have working A-C (which is a must), so we went to our originally assigned room. Desk and breakfast staff is very helpful, although hard to get room service or maintenance help at other times.

This hotel was an absolute gem in this tiny town. What an experience! Lovely well appointed rooms with a fantastic luxurious buffet breakfast. The staff was incredibly helpful and informative. A true escape from the real world.

Lost Camera was Returned
We only had 1 night in Portofino and our stay at the 8 Hotel was wonderful. The staff greeted us immediately with a comfortable place to sit and a welcome drink. It was 102 degrees outside and we were well traveled that day but our appearance didn't cause them to treat us any differently. On the day we checked out we were waiting for the taxi and left our brand new Nikon Camera in the lobby. We didn't realize it was gone until we arrived that night in Milan. Not a good thing to be without your camera on a European vacation. Checking my email as soon as we checked into our next hotel, I had already received an email from the 8 Hotel with information on our camera and they were offering to send our camera to us. We are back home in the US now and provided the hotel with all the requested information and look forward to receiving our camera soon. The hotel isn't just beautiful and in a great location, but the staff will do anything to make your stay perfect.

Pricey Portofino Perfection.
This is a good, high end hotel and well up to the SLH standard. Lots of small things went wrong when we arrived, but the staff responded quickly and efficiently to put it/them right. Like everything else in Portofino this is expensive accommodation, but worth the price, if you consider where you are!
