Barrier Dunes is great - I love the short walk to the beach and the proximity to the state park. As with my prior stay, I found the townhome to be comfortable and nice. I'm not sure why this place gets so many bad reviews. It's true that it shows more wear than other units in Barrier Dunes where I've stayed - but those units are also more expensive. Personally, I think the trade-off for a lower price for a place with a little wear to be reasonable. I did take 1 star off due to the floors being a bit dirty. The location is great, just a short walk to the beach. The ceramic floors are damaged - cracks throughout the first floor. The carpet was stained badly up the stairs and in the master bedroom. The kitchen was barely usable - very few dishes, stainless, and pans. The stove top was uneven so cooking was difficult. The condition of the decks was uncomfortable, the wood is old and nails are protruding. When we arrived at the house I couldn’t help but sit back and listen to my kids excitedly run up and down the stairs! The pool was right out of our back door (a very short walk) and the beach was right behind the pool! I was very impressed! It exceeded the pictures from the post! Appliances were old and rusty, the fridge DID NOT cool. I lost 300 worth of groceries. Lighting was not good at all. Overall it was very disappointing and expensive for what it was. The internet would not connect to the tv none of the network names existed, someone was suppose to come and fix but never showed up. The internet should be set up when we arrive. The grill outside did not work. The fridge did not get cold enough cold keep to our food and drinks in and it was on the highest setting. The washer would no drain and spin the clothes. The dryer, I had it on for over two hours and my clothes still weren’t dry. My family and I have never once complained about a rental. This was appalling. The upstairs A/C was broken and never repaired. We learned it had been broken for at least three weeks. The Vacasa contact said they knew about two days prior to our arrival. They did offer to move us, but it was not comparable (bed rooms, location). It was a full day of battling about the A/C, and we asked for a reduced rate. They offered to return our Vacasa fees but the owner still wanted full rent. Eventually they gave us half-off, but it was a fight. We just cannot let this slide and have another family's vacation upended. This is what is in need of repair. 1) A/C2) The sliding porch doors will barely open. 3) underneath the sink is rotting.4) there are roaches in the beds. 5) the porches are rotting, as well as the spindles. 6) the kitchen is poorly stocked.7) the refrigerator needs to be replaced. It's leaking. The cleaning services were also poor. There were wet, dirty dishes in the cabinet when we arrived. The floor needs to be cleaned. Our feet were immediately black on the bottom walking around. Barrier Dunes is an awesome spot. Please rent another unit. Upon reading further into the reviews, this unit/owner has been terrible for years. I am stunned Vacasa/Vrbo continues to rent this property. ##### Cristin K. The beds were actually quite comfortable, and the home was relatively clean. Everything was in working order, and we had no issues.
