Great place to stay in Tobago
Had a really great and memorable stay at the Rex in Tobago.
First impressions were that it was old and seemed a little unloved. Felt that there were some areas where a little paint or maintenance around the general building and outside of the rooms would make it look a little nicer. However you cannot let any of this put you off at all. The rooms were big, comfortable and had a great sea view. The gardens and greenery was very well kept.
Personally I think you have to understand the type of place it is - it's not a top, 5* location where you expect that it is pristine in every way with a modern building and top notch facilities; it's a down to earth, laid back, tropical hotel that has been around for many years. It does the job and is very comfortable.
There is not too much around the area to walk to, but the island is small, so nothing is too far away and the hotel are happy to arrange taxi's for you to local places of interest.
The only criticisms I have are that, at times the WiFi was quite intermittent and didn't always work. The TV could have had some local TV stations. The security team onsite were reassuring to see walking around and at their stations, but sometimes it was quiet and dark in outdoor areas at night.
If you go during turtle season, you will probably be very lucky to get to see a turtle nesting. Let the hotel know and they can notify you if one comes to the beach, but be prepared for a late night call! It's a great experience and this is one of the t
