what a wonderful hotel, it is a quick tram ride from central station #26. If you want to be close but not right in the middle of the action.
The staff are friendly and attentive. Check in was quick but don't forget the tourist tax that the hotel collects but of a sham but doubt it's the hotels fault. We were too early for check in but were able to leave our bags in storage.
We had room 007.... It was on the bottom floor (below street level). It was clean but smelt a little of damp I'm sure due to the fact little air circulates down there.
The rooms are kitch and quirky and The hall way looked like something out of a hospital but very fun. The bed was soft and the pillows comfy.
The too Was stifling hot and no where air conditioning or ability to open the windows. It was a very loud room with the main hall way above us so listening to people walk up and down and then people leaving the pub across the road was distracting. We were so tired that we fell asleep anyway but if it had been more than one night I would have asked to be moved.
The wifi was great and free.
We didn't eat at the hotel but the breakfast did look good.
Would I stay here again yes but I'd be more picky about my room.
We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were lovely & the location is good. Only 15 minutes on the tram to the centre with the tram stop only about 100 metres from the hotel. Nice restaurants nearby. The room itself was good; clean & comfortable. We would certainly stay again if we return to Amsterdam.
I have travelled a lot around the world, and the Breitner House is the best place I have ever been.Everything is perfect in this house: the room, the decoration, the breakfast, and the people. Camilla and Guido are the nicest couple you could ever imagine. They took care of us like a family. Since the terrible accident happened in Belgium, suddenly we had to change our schedule. They let us stay in their place generously, and comforted us with their optimistic spirit. We have stayed here for 6 days, and I loved it more and more each day. For me, it is not only a hotel, but a home. The Breitner House has became the best part of Amsterdam in my memory. Can't wait to go back to Amsterdam.
Little bit far from centre, there is tram 9 goes to near by. Hotel is 2 houses combined. Very steep stairs, if you have room on the top and have lots of luggages... Good luck with that as there isn't any lift. They are refurbishing some rooms. We just stayed for a night, for us it was OK. Very good value for a night.
This area is known as Plantage (Plantation) and while its lush parkland has mostly gone, botanical gardens and the small Artis Zoo provide refuge from the hustle of the city. To the north, the excellent maritime Nederlands Scheepvaartmuseum is a reminder of Dutch naval power; to the south the ethnographical Tropenmuseum holds exotic treasures from the Dutch East Indies.
