Suleman the manager and his team are amazing - very attentive and knowledgeable and the food is a real gem. Simple and local but straight out the sea. Frequently asked questions

How much does a pet-friendly hotel in Pemba Island cost?
You can find pet-friendly hotels in Pemba Island from £51 with Expedia. Staying at a pet-friendly hotel offers a convenient and welcoming experience for travellers who don't want to leave their furry companions behind. Find the best deals by being flexible with your dates, and sort search results by "Price: low to high" for our cheapest rates.
Which area of Pemba Island is best to stay in for pet-friendly hotels?
For travellers looking for pet-friendly hotels on Pemba Island, the best area to stay is along the northwestern coast, particularly around the villages of Ngezi and Vumawimbi.

This region is known for its beautiful, less developed beaches and lush Ngezi Forest. Accommodation here often consists of private villas or smaller, boutique resorts that are more likely to offer pet-friendly options compared to the larger, more conventional resorts found elsewhere. The terrain is generally more open, providing ample space for pets to explore.

Couples travelling with pets will find this area particularly appealing. The secluded beaches, like Vumawimbi Beach, offer a tranquil setting for walks with your pet, and many properties in this area have private gardens or direct beach access, making it very convenient.
How do I ensure I have booked a pet-friendly room in Pemba Island?
To ensure you've booked a pet-friendly room on Expedia, use the filters in your search and select "Pet friendly" under the "Amenities" section. This will narrow your options to properties that allow pets. Once you find a hotel you're interested in, click on it and review the "Policies" section for specific details about their pet policy. This often includes information about pet types, size restrictions, fees, and whether pets are allowed in all rooms or only certain ones. When selecting your room type, read the room description to check that its pet-friendly, as not all rooms in a pet-friendly hotel may accommodate pets. For added peace of mind, contact the hotel directly to confirm the room you've selected allows pets.
What pet-friendly activities should we do in Pemba Island?
Pemba Island isn't widely known for dedicated pet-friendly activities or facilities, so it's important to manage expectations and plan carefully. Due to local regulations, animal welfare considerations, and the nature of many excursions, options for pets are very limited.

Generally, pets aren't permitted on organised tours, particularly those involving marine life (like snorkelling or diving trips) or nature reserves. Similarly, most hotels and guesthouses on Pemba Island don't accommodate pets. It's crucial to confirm directly with any accommodation provider about their specific pet policy before booking.

If you are travelling with a pet, your best bet would be to focus on independent activities where your pet can accompany you. This might include walks on public beaches (though always check for local restrictions or cultural sensitivities regarding animals on beaches) or exploring less-frequented areas. However, be mindful of the tropical climate, as it can be very hot for animals, and always ensure your pet has access to fresh water and shade. It's also vital to be aware of any local wildlife or stray animals that could pose a risk.
What amenities should I look for in a pet-friendly hotel in Pemba Island?
When selecting a hotel in Pemba Island for you and your pet, look for amenities like food and water bowls, pet-friendly outdoor spaces and pet beds. You may find hotels that go the extra mile with pet-friendly dining options, treats and toys. It's also worth looking to see if there are any pet-friendly parks or walking trails nearby.
How can I save on a pet-friendly hotel in Pemba Island with Expedia?
There are plenty of ways to save on a pet-friendly hotel in Pemba Island. Join One Key™, our free travel rewards program, to unlock Member Prices across a range of premium hotels. Typically, booking in advance will help you save on your pet-friendly hotel booking.
Do any Pemba Island hotels have restrictions on pet sizes or breeds?
First ensure you have picked a pet-friendly hotel by using the "Pet friendly" filter under the "Amenities" section in your search. If a hotel in Pemba Island has restrictions on pet sizes or breeds, you will find this information clearly in their property listing on Expedia. When you're on the property listing page, simply click on "Policies" to see what pet-specific policies the hotel implements.
Is it cheaper to book flights and a pet-friendly hotel in Pemba Island as a package?
Booking a hotel and flight package on Expedia can be cheaper than booking flights and hotels separately. Bundling can lead to significant savings, especially for international travel or when booking well in advance. However, savings vary depending on factors like destination, travel dates, and availability, so it's wise to compare options. With access to over 300,000 hotels worldwide, Expedia makes it easy to build the perfect travel package.
Can I cancel my pet-friendly hotel reservation on Expedia?
Many Expedia hotel reservations are refundable, provided that you cancel before the hotel's cancellation deadline. This is often within 24-48 hours of your scheduled arrival. Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact cancellation policy. For maximum flexibility, use Expedia's "Fully refundable property" filter during your search to find the right pet-friendly hotel in Pemba Island for you.
