    Faded but comfortable

The hotel is showing its age, with threadbare carpets on the stairs etc. It's still a lovely location, and with a little TLC could regain its former glory.

This is a lovely place to escape to, no matter what your reason is for visiting - whether it’s leisure, business or to visit the town of Peebles. The view is unbeatable. I was last here in 2017, a few months after being diagnosed with a stomach virus and unable to eat processed sugar or gluten. They had nothing I could eat for breakfast and gave me a meringue for dessert. Thankfully they’d improved enough during my November 2019 visit to offer two gluten free cereals (but sadly no bread) at breakfast. I visited on a weekend in which two friends were getting married, and which was also my birthday. We paid for an executive room but if the photos on here are anything to go by we definitely got a standard. When we enquired we got told this was “a feature” which made sense to no-one, probably not even the person who said it.

Pleasant hotel...friendly staff. Our room was lovely......some parts of the hotel require painting and refurbishment. The Spa area at places requires updating. When we were there one day the juacuzzi broken and the following day the pool was closed due to maintenance. This is not satisfactory when it is a short stay at the Hydro. Also we could not get any apps in the beauty salon...apparently it is always full up. Why don't you extend the size and employ another therapist if it's always busy? That was dusapointing but in general the stay was successful. We did go into Peebles every day however and the view from our feature room was breathtaking!

Initially unsure, happy by the end

I arrived at the hotel and requested another room as the one I had been allocated was in front of the car park and of course at nearly 8pm at night it was hard to see what the view was. It was down some rather date stairs and felt unwelcoming if I'm honest. I'm a light sleeper so was worried about noise at the ground floor level. The room seemed a bit dull/unfriendly initially - I waited a good few minutes before I was called back to be advised that the duty manager was taking the trouble to check some rooms. Another few minutes later, I was called to be advised that there was another room available - the Prestige room - I was told that there was no-one above or to the sides and it was a big room with a balcony and was £130. I decided against taking it as it was already after 8pm and I wanted to use the pool before it closed so wouldn't really benefit from the upgrade. I was paying £90 for my room so it's a big jump up - I didn't realise how nice this room was until I saw it from the outside in the morning. It was good of reception/the duty manager to check and, whilst perhaps they could have sold the Prestige room a bit more, I appreciated their effort. I ordered in room breakfast as I wanted to relax and it duly arrived nice and hot. The view was actually nice beyond the car park and the room was well sound-proofed and there was no significant traffic/footfall until after 9am. The room also looked better in daylight and was nicer than it seemed the night before.
