"Lovely hotel near Chatsworth House."
Very comfortable room , excellent service and friendly staff. Luxurious surroundings and altogether a very relaxing experience, extremely quiet hotel, no traffic noise, with stunning views over fields and parkland. Highly recommend this hotel, cannot find any fault with it at all, was everything and more than I would expect.

"Convenient hotel; very helpful staff and good food"
The hotel staff were particularly accommodating throughout my stay at the hotel, on business. I enjoyed the food which was of a very high standard and which was unexpected given other independent hotels I have stayed in recently. (I was made aware at the hotel that Best Western consists of independent hotels - news to me!) I'd like to thank the various reception staff for their help in enabling me to fax/copy and undertake some other similar tasks I had to urgently complete (I don't think there is a dedicated business centre at the hotel). Great Customer Service and not a groan heard when I asked again for a copy of something!! I hope to return as a tourist and enjoy the town which I unfortunately got to walk around briefly but for which the hotel is extremely well situated.

"Good location for Peak break"
Another nice stay at The Palace Hotel. Yes the hotel is looking tired in places but I have been visiting for the last 9 years and I can see that some maintenance works are being addressed. Had a slight issue on check in when the receptionist insisted I needed to pay again for the room. This was swiftly sorted a short while later after I double checked with my credit card company and went back to reception to sort it out. The more experienced receptionist informed me that the other girl was a trainee. I appreciate that we all have to start somewhere and the matter although unnecessary was dealt with pleasantly and swiftly. Booked the breakfast through reception for an extra £10 per person per day. Well worth the money. From a continental breakfast to a full English, something for everyone and as much as you can eat. Set us up good and proper for a day out. Am sure we'll be back again in the future.

Friendly reception, room was allocated in annexe across busy road, but was comfortable. Shopping in Bakewell made easy, being centre town and evening dinner was gourmet standard at reasonable price.

Pocket Guide: Peak District Peak District Hotels

Offering some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery, you’ll find the Peak District on the southern slopes of the Pennines. Rolling into six counties, Derbyshire is at its heart and, despite its size, the Peak District National Park is easy to reach. While its most obvious attractions are found in its rugged beauty, the Peaks are a treasure-trove of hidden villages, tumbledown buildings and ancient artefacts. There’s plenty of excellent accommodation nearby, ranging from rustic B&Bs and charming, timber-beamed inns to magnificent country manors and upmarket hotels.

Hotels in the Historic Peak District

The Peak District became the UK’s first National Park on the 17th April, 1951. It was granted National Park status after a prolonged campaign started way back in 1884 by MP, James Bryce. Though the campaign was repeatedly knocked back, it culminated in a ‘mass trespass’ by the public in the 1930s which eventually put enough pressure on the government to open the park to everyone. Over time, a select number hotels and guesthouses were allowed to stake their claims in the park. Today, accommodation like the Snake Pass Inn and the Rutland Arms Hotel offer a glimpse into the region’s history, as well as outstanding accommodation.

    Attractions in the Peak District

In addition to the temptations of the Great Outdoors, there are plenty of attractions to see and explore. The Peak District is home to a number of historic houses, such as Chatsworth House, Haddon House and Hardwick Hall. To dig further into the area’s past, visit museums and working examples of times gone by such as Brindley Mill and Cheddleton Flint Mill. For family days out, the Peak District offers an eclectic range of attractions, from underground caves and hilltop parks to the thrills and spills of Alton Towers. With the Peaks being well served by roads, you’ll find that most Peak District hotels and B&Bs are within easy access of many of the areas famous landmarks, either as a short walk or a short drive.

With market towns offering excellent shopping and fine restaurants offering exquisite dishes cooked using local produce, the Peak District is a fascinating place to visit. Accommodation is as eclectic as the attractions, with something to suit all tastes and budgets.
