"Delightful - Friendly and Comfortable"
Beautiful house in a lovely setting, perfect for relaxing. Michael was the perfect host: solicitous, welcoming, but not intrusive. We enjoyed a quiet and comfortable night's sleep, and only declined the offer of a fire in the sitting room because we were too tired!

Pocket Guide: Derbyshire Peak District Hotels

Offering some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery, you’ll find the Peak District on the southern slopes of the Pennines. Rolling into six counties, Derbyshire is at its heart and, despite its size, the Peak District National Park is easy to reach. While its most obvious attractions are found in its rugged beauty, the Peaks are a treasure-trove of hidden villages, tumbledown buildings and ancient artefacts. There’s plenty of excellent accommodation nearby, ranging from rustic B&Bs and charming, timber-beamed inns to magnificent country manors and upmarket hotels.

Hotels in the Historic Peak District

The Peak District became the UK’s first National Park on the 17th April, 1951. It was granted National Park status after a prolonged campaign started way back in 1884 by MP, James Bryce. Though the campaign was repeatedly knocked back, it culminated in a ‘mass trespass’ by the public in the 1930s which eventually put enough pressure on the government to open the park to everyone. Over time, a select number hotels and guesthouses were allowed to stake their claims in the park. Today, accommodation like the Snake Pass Inn and the Rutland Arms Hotel offer a glimpse into the region’s history, as well as outstanding accommodation.

    Attractions in the Peak District

In addition to the temptations of the Great Outdoors, there are plenty of attractions to see and explore. The Peak District is home to a number of historic houses, such as Chatsworth House, Haddon House and Hardwick Hall. To dig further into the area’s past, visit museums and working examples of times gone by such as Brindley Mill and Cheddleton Flint Mill. For family days out, the Peak District offers an eclectic range of attractions, from underground caves and hilltop parks to the thrills and spills of Alton Towers. With the Peaks being well served by roads, you’ll find that most Peak District hotels and B&Bs are within easy access of many of the areas famous landmarks, either as a short walk or a short drive.

With market towns offering excellent shopping and fine restaurants offering exquisite dishes cooked using local produce, the Peak District is a fascinating place to visit. Accommodation is as eclectic as the attractions, with something to suit all tastes and budgets.
