This hotel is family owned and run by the same family for many years and it shows in the hands on attention to the property and engagement with guests. The rooms are comfortable, spacious, well maintained and clean. Bar and restaurant are great. The staff are excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone looking to stay in the Greymouth area.

Very nice apartment outside of Greymouth
Really nice apartment (executive suite) with a spacious living/kitchen area, spacious bedroom and large bathroom. Staff were very helpful and were able to pick us up from the Greymouth station. Hotel is outside of Greymouth though, so probably better if you have a car. If you don't have a car (which we didn't), there is still a nice beach to walk on and see a stunning sunset and you may be able to arrange something with the hotel in terms of transport. There is also a restaurant/bar at the hotel which is very convenient.

Paris Motel is an excellent value. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. The on site restaurant is a local favorite and offers an excellent and varied menu.

Convient Paroa Hotel for West Coast S. Island NZ
The Paroa Hotel was a short walk to the beach and had a great restaurant next door (within the same establishment of the hotel). Our room was huge and beautiful with a nice place to sit outside on a deck, with a view of the garden, not the ocean. It was perfect for our one night stay while driving the west coast of the south island. My only complaint is that they only had instant coffee in the room. Every other hotel we have stayed at in New Zealand had coffee for the provided French press or an espresso machine. It worked out ok since I could walk to the restaurant next door for my morning java. This hotel wasn't in walking distance to much else besides the beach and restaurant, but for us that was just fine!

Great place in Poroa
Our stay was great! The staff were so accommodating! We got into town around 7:00 and everything we needed was right there. A great restaurant with excellent food and affordable prices! The hotel was a 3 minute walk from the beach so we enjoyed a walk on the beach after dinner. Bed was comfortable. Would stay again if in the area!

The owners and staff were so friendly. It seemed like a place where New Zealanders, and not just tourists, were likely to stay. The hotel is well-located for trips to Paparoa National Park and Hokitika, and there's a two minute walk to a beach where you can try your luck finding paunamu and penguins.

There was nothing really 'special' about the place. the staff were friendly, and the room was clean and tidy and in good condition, as was the rest of the property. there is a good restaurant/ bar on site and its a short walk to the beach.

Paroa Hotel is an amazing place and experience. Bernie (son of founding owners) has now turned it over to his son and daughter. He is fun to talk to and tends the bar at night. The quality of the hotel construction is top notch. Food at their restaurant (both breakfast and dinner) was nothing short of amazing and world class. Lovely beach behind the hotel. Close jumping off point for many South Island NZ adventures. We can't wait to return to stay longer. This family owned place really knows hospitality. LOVED the Paroa hotel,

A good option if doing the Trans-Alpine train
My wife and I chose the Paroa because we were doing the train and it looked the part. Plenty of space, comfortable bed, and a a warm welcome. We had dinner there too - there's not much on offer in Greymouth. This was fine. We had early breakfast too, also perfectly good. The hotel is also very convenient for Shantytown which is worth a look. Overall, a good choice for a one night stopver when travelling through Greymouth, although it is a few kms out of town.

Surprisingly nice!
From the outside this motel looks a little old and dated, but the rooms are all incredibly modern and very comfortable. The motel front desk is in a little liquor store out front, which seems a little strange, but it works. There is an onsite restaurant that was decent for dinner and TOTALLY EXCELLENT for breakfast. The beach is supposedly just a minute or two walk from the rooms, but we didn't see it as it was pouring rain when we were there. Maybe we'll see it next time, I would definitely stay here again, if I were in the the area.

This hotel/motel provides great family hospitality and the staff were only too happy to make us comfortable. We had a deluxe room which was huge and comfortable. The food at the hotel was lovely and reasonably priced. Close to the beach for a nice walk too. Would definitely recommend!

Within 5 minutes of arriving at this hotel I had been personally welcomed and met by 3 staff. The room was spacious with a lovely deck to enjoy the sunset. Comfortable lounge area, and full kitchen, with separate bedroom. I was very impressed and will be making this a regular stopover on my work travels. Stunning surf beach directly in front of the hotel

The Monk family were so friendly. A nice welcome made us feel special. Units are new, clean & extremely comfortable. We ate all our meals at the Hotel & I would highly recommend the stopover to anyone.

The motel is better then what I expected, the whole room is nice and big with good provided of kitchen facilities. Check in staff Alan is very friendly and willing to provide useful travel information for traveler like us. The motel has a good restaurant and 10 minutes drive from supermarket, good for travelers to choose and stay

Very friendly owners. This is a family owned motel and they took care of us so well. nice views and we could walk to a beach in under 5minutes. Close to everywhere and nice comfy beds. Nice food too.

The stay at Paroa Hotel was good and comfortable. The manager, Mr. Alan Monk was friendly and helpful. He gave good tips about visiting the local attractions which was really helpful.

Upon arrival was made to feel very welcome plus given a "what to do list" of Greymouth's attractions including travel times and things to see along the way. When attending the restaurant for an evening meal, and despite there being several diners, the proprietor noticed us and immediately came over to ask about our day trip, seated us and ensured we were given prompt service. The meals were excellent value and more like home cooking than usual restaurant food. Steak and vegetables was just that, big T-bone and plenty of veges and was excellent. When advising the proprietor that we would be attending breakfast the next morning, was surprised to find a table already set personally for us and once again made to feel as though we were special. Family friendly and great to interact with the staff about where we come from, our trip and casual chatter. Best stay on our NZ trip .

Staff were very helpful and friendly. We were in the front room close to road and rail line so was a bit noisy. Room was nice and clean just dated. The single beds weren't the greatest. Value for money compared to other hotels in Greymouth.

Surprising stopover
I wanted to stay close to the beach on the Westcoast. My wish was granted - I could stand on the room balcony and see the sea and feel the offshore breeze on my face. We were able to take a short walk to the beach, stepping over a coastal bicycle pathway to get there. This hotel/ motel is a cyclist's destination/ stopover. We shared the dining room with a bunch of hardy cyclists the evening we stayed. The host and hostess were both generous with their assistance and friendly. Following their advice we visited the nearby Shanty-town and travelled to Hokitika before the weather changed and rain chased us indoors .

A nice stay.
We spent Christmas night at Paroa Hotel. It is totally acceptable that there was no staff showing up when I came to the hotel, considering the time. After simply calling a number, I got my room which was tidy and had everything we needed. When I checked out next morning, the staff was friendly and nice. By the way, the big backyard is cool.

Exceeded expectations
Final night at the end of a six day 'circuit' of the upper South Island with a couple of Canadian visitors. A little nervously I had aimed for a 'country pub' experience to round off the trip, and was agreeably surprised to find a clean well appointed version of what I remember from years past as being often a bit rough around the edges. Lovely people and a very comfortable stay, and still the best of a 'country pub'.
