No air con made it impossible to sleep in the heat and road noise all night meant having window open was not an option

Good hotel

Posted 27-Aug-2015
Pros: Good situation.
Cons: Air conditioning would be good or a fan. It was 30+ degrees.
Location: Good metro connections. I walked to Sacre Couer, Seine etc. All in all good location. Mini supermarkets around too for goodies!
Good hotel, right near to Gard du Nord. Good metro connections and not far to walk to Sacre Coeur etc. As mentioned later air con or a fan would be good as my room, as on previous occasions, was adjoining the main road to Gard du Nord and was very noise all night - you could open the double glazed window for air but got the noise too!

Hotel 5 minute walk from Gare du Nord train.

Posted 24-Aug-2015
Pros: Proximity to transport. We were catching the Eurostar so we were only a five minute walk away, and easy to manage our luggage.
Cons: The room we were given was on the 6th floor, but the lift only went to the 5th floor, so had to carry bags up the stairs, but it was manageable.
Location: Not really close to Paris sights, but the metro was very easy to navigate around the city. It was only 2 metro stops to Montmartre.
I was travelling with my granddaughter but had booked a double room. I should have booked a twin room, so the fellow at reception very kindly re-organised another room. They only had a triple room so that gave us extra room.

Hot, stuffy, cramped and decrepit.

Posted 05-Aug-2015
We picked this hotel due to its proximity to the train station. That turned out to be its only positive. It was a warm day, I understand no AC in some of these older hotels but they also have no fans to loan out to guests. This made for a muggy night, with the windows open. Unfortunately, the street is brightly lit at night - so our room was too. And the. Of course the street noise was constant - probably why they have complimentary ear its in the room!! Very poor experience and a very poor value.

No air conditioning, sweating hot. And the stuff are really sarcastic towards that.

Eenvoudig en prima!

Posted 26-Jul-2015

Close to the train station, very convenient.

Pros: I loved the staff. They were friendly and very helpful. Kudos to the staff at the Avalon.
Cons: The smell of smoke and AC (air condition) in every room.
Location: The hotel is right in front of the metro & perfect for hopping on the Big Bus tour, 5 minutes away from the train station, & eateries.
I enjoyed my stay at the Avalon. It was even better after I was moved to a bigger room. I did not care for the smell of smoke, but once I was switched to a different room all was well. I enjoyed the continental breakfast. Make sure you book as bed and breakfast to get the free continental breakfast. If you need AC please request it. I would suggest anyone staying request a room with a balcony just in case you're in a room without AC. Then you can open up your doors to the balcony to catch a breeze. The staff was a group of good people. They made my stay very pleasant. Thank you for all the helpful directions. I can get lost easily. Kudos to the staff at the Avalon!

Standard room too hot

Posted 14-Jul-2015
Pros: Location, the lift and we could have 4 in the 1 room.
Cons: Air conditioning in all rooms.
Location: Everything nearby, great for the Eurostar, restaurants and metro trains.
We stayed on a fairly warm night and did not know the room would not have air conditioning. I should have checked I suppose. We had to open all the windows which meant the traffic noise was very loud. We did not get much sleep. The location was excellent for Gare du Nord so I would recommend it for that reason but make sure you book a superior room.

Unseasonably hot

Posted 06-Jul-2015
The location of the hotel is very convenient to the Gare du Nord train and metro station. All of the hotel staff that we encountered over our three day stay were very helpful, patient and efficient. The bathrooms were spacious with good water pressure. Everything was very neat and clean. The major downside was that it was unseasonably hot and the air conditioning was either non existent or malfunctioning. Our last night the outside air was nice and cool so we finally got a good night's sleep.

Pros: Very little
The hotel is on a very busy road, not massively central. No aircon or vents in the micro-sized room. Only way to keep the room fresh and cool overnight was to open the window. Sadly this made sleep impossible as the road outside was very loud all night, lots of horns beeping
