I am a solo male Canadian backpacker who was on a two month trip around India and Sri Lanka. This was a last minute internet find at the very end of the high season. I went to Goa because it was the end point of a train trip I wanted to take and because after the heat of Rajasthan and Gujarat I just wanted to jump in the warm sea. The manager was kind enough to come and pick me up at the Magdaon railway station at night - no small feat! At the end of the stay he also drove me to the Goa International Airport very early in the morning. The resort is a group of low rise residential buildings surrounded by greenery like coconut trees and with gated security. The room was relatively clean. Its electricity cut out quite frequently. Although it's only about five hundred meters from the beach, it was sort of a drag to have to walk there for each meal because the resort did not really provide meals in the low season. The beach restaurants were fun, inexpensive and with good food. The manager helped me with going to see Galigbag or Turtle Beach some eight kilometers away. There was decent laundry service. This was my first time using Expedia to book and I didn't remember whether I had paid for everything online with the result that I paid online for the basic rate and then paid the manager in cash for what was supposed to be extras like air conditioning and driving. Lesson learned: keep note of transactions when there's a middle person like Expedia.
The hotel is well maintained with beautiful panorama and clean beach away from crowds. So those who are looking to spend time either at beach or in swimming pool ,it serves it all. Breakfast offered is of 5* international standard with orientation to indian cousine. Staff is courteous n helpful.
The Tubki Hotel is about an 8 minute walk from Patnem Beach but just a 5 minute walk until you reach the beach shops, tuk tuks and taxis.
The rooms are huge as are the beds and it provides air conditioning as well as two fans, a fridge and cable TV.
The bathrooms are a wet bathroom with a good powerful shower.
The staff were disappointing, not very engaged and no ownership or follow up if asked for anything and seemed to be more interested in playing pool than looking after the guests.
The restaurant and bar were large, but I didn't eat so can not comment on the food.
The only downside to the Tubki Hotel is the noise. The railway line runs right behind the hotel with trains running pretty much every half an hour and a building site just a few feet away with the workers staring at 7am every single day.
Whilst it is probably the nicest hotel in Patnem, I would recommend staying just the other side of the hotel to the construction site.
We had 14 nights at The Fern Gardenia and enjoyed our stay very much. The staff at the hotel are really helpful and friendly and nothing was too much bother. A rickshaw to the beach is provided by the hotel between 9 am and 6 pm, we did not attempt to walk to the beach as the roads are quite busy. However, once at Palolem Beach it is possible to walk to Patnem Beach which is the quieter of the two.
We had a fantastic time and didn't want to come back home. Ask at reception for Daya to take you by rickshaw to the beach, he is a lovely man.

We had a very comfortable few days in Palolem staying at this hotel. It is close to several of the beach shacks and other restaurants and the beach is only about 100 yards away. The main tourist centre of Palolem is maybe half a mile away, but, in our opinion, this area is much nicer.
The cottage is simple but well appointed, with an outside veranda, which is a nice place for a siesta. The garden is designed to give each cottage plenty of privacy.
Staff are friendly and helpful and breakfasts were fine, either cooked on site or ordered in from the Neptune Point beach shack, depending on what was wanted. Fans and a/c were nice and quiet. WiFi worked well.
We would recommend Neptune Point Cottages if you want something straightforward, comfortable and quiet.
Quaint cottages punctuated by palm trees line this crescent shaped beach in South Goa where sunbathers share the beach with local fishermen and sacred cows. The 2 km stretch of soft sand and gentle current is among the most beautiful in India. Secluded Palolem is close to the markets in Chaudi and 1 hour from Dabolim Airport.
