We used to live in Reading and had eaten at The Crown and its sister restaurant in Nettlebed in the past, so when we needed to travel from the Midlands for a funeral locally, we decided to stay at The Crown. The room was very pleasant, with a lovely comfortable bed and a modern bathroom, all of which were spotlessly clean. The 'information' folder, didn't have much information, though it did have some details of interesting local walks e.g. by the River Thames. However, what we really would have found useful was some information on putting the heating on in the room and how to get to the bathroom in the night without putting on all the lights and waking one's spouse! Also, I am only 150 cms tall and I couldn't reach to hang my clothes up, and couldn't see even the top of my head in the bathroom mirror. I'd have to have been at least 10cms taller to do that and to reach the hangers, The place was clearly designed by a man or a tall woman. It's little things like that which make all the difference and can lift a stay from being 'good enough' to 'very good indeed'. The evening meal was delicious, with a varied menu and a young waiter who was extremely helpful and pleasant, and breakfast the next morning was good too - coooked to order and delicious. We would stay here again. Well done - but please lower the mirror a little in the bathroom and leave some instructions about the lights!
