wonderful location, lovely traditional style hotel

Posted 23-Jul-2017
Pros: The deluxe room was spacious and reception was open 24hrs, great for a late check in and early check out we had to do.
Cons: The shower in our room was very small, a taller and larger person would have a lot of trouble with this.
Location: Oxford itself is a bustling town with numerous local activities and sites to see. Many shopping opportunities available as well as plenty of history.
Lovely English style hotel, with everything you need. Very close walk to all the wonderful attractions in Oxford, yet far enough away to be out of the hustle and bustle. The onsite restaurant had an excellent choice and the food was beautiful. Just a couple of moments with staff not understanding my requests, however that may have been my Australian accent! Highly recommended not only for visiting the local area, but as a base to roam around the countryside.

Beautiful countryside hotel

Posted 19-Jul-2017
Pros: I love that there are horses in the field, walking right along the river takes you to the Isis Farmhouse pub, and walking left goes into town.
Cons: The rude-awakening fire drill at 3:00 am meant need to evacuate. No one visibly in charge. Free breakfast next day would have been good remedy.
Location: Location is ideal. Taxi, bus, or nice walk into town is easy.
I love that this hotel feels rural but is minutes away by bus, cab, or river walk into town. It's quiet and some rooms have a lovely view. Not all rooms are air conditioned though so location of room in hotel is important. The front desk staff was very helpful and accommodating. The morning breakfast buffet and facilites is fabulous. I've stayed at this hotel twice and had great experiences both times.

Very pleasant stay

Posted 11-Jul-2017
Pros: Lovely restaurant, bar and outside space. Recently refurbished rooms and pleasant staff.
Cons: It was very hot during our stay so air con would have been beneficial.
Very nicely presented hotel within easy access of Oxford city center. We were originally allocated a ground floor room but people could see in and we needed to have the windows open as it was so hot. We asked to be moved and we then changed to a lovely 1st floor room which was very tastefully decorated and comfortable.

Very clean and up to date

It was a nice hotel but with no air conditioning. We were in Oxford during a heat wave and the room would get uncomfortable. The location is great though and in general, the hotel was beautiful.

Pros: Nice and close to the river.
It was very hot weather during our stay at Oxford Spires and I found the room heated up during the day. I did leave the curtains drawn whilst we were out to help keep the room cooler( south facing). But the cleaning staff did open them. Perhaps the staff should know the benefit of this procedure. I come from Australia

Fire alarm went off twice. Second time in middle of night @ 300am. No staff around to direct or say when we could go back inside. Staff is nice but seems a bit uorganized.

Walking distance to Oxford

Posted 27-Jun-2017
Pros: breakfast; helpful staff; beautiful location in nature preserve by river
Cons: a/c (unlikely in GB) fix elevator closest to reception
Location: Oxford is a historic university town (university dates to 1200's) with wonderful sights, museums, bus ride to Blenheim Palace and Cotswolds; great foo
Just south of Oxford; 20-min walk to the center of town. Difficult to access upstairs rooms through a labyrinth of hallways and only one working elevator. Good breakfast; helpful front-desk staff. Like most small British hotels, no A/C but windows don't open much. Fans provided did help.
