Unnecessary credit card fraud risk! Overall the hotel was fine; the room was clean, heater functioned, water sufficiently warm, breakfast was good with a waffle and fresh fruit. My concern was the check in process, where the desk clerk took my credit card and photocopied it. I asked why she did this, and was told they need a copy of my credit card to cover any damages or incidentals. I replied that every other hotel I have stayed in worldwide would create a temporary billing to cover this, where I would maintain possession of my credit card, using the handheld terminal to approve the temporary charge, which would be canceled upon check out.
It’s 2024, in this digital age, there is no need to photocopy your guests’ credit cards. And now, I worry that the staff, their associates, or anyone going through the hotel’s garbage has my credit card info for making fraudulent purchases online.
I will be writing to Travelodge head office to ask that none of their locations either take possession nor photocopy any guest’s credit card.
