Pocket Guide: Chuo Osaka Castle Hotels

Osaka Castle is the symbol of the city and one of Japan’s most famous landmarks. But the area isn’t just worth a visit for the castle itself. Nearby attractions that tempt visitors to pick a hotel in this part of Osaka include the beautiful 260-acre park in which the castle stands, the old-style shopping streets of Kyobashi and Osaka Museum of History, which tells the story of the city all the way back to the 7th Century when it was the first capital of Japan. You’ll also find the Osaka Business Park in the neighbourhood.

Stay in the Osaka Castle District

There’s a good choice of accommodation on offer if you’re looking for a place within easy reach of Osaka Castle. It’s mostly in the mid-budget range with a handful of high-end hotels, some of which are located alongside the Okawa and Neya rivers, two of the many waterways that flow through the city centre. In high season you can take a 50-minute river tour between Osakajo Pier near Osaka Castle Park and the heart of Minami, the city’s southerly shopping and entertainment hub.

Discover Fascinating Osaka Castle

The trees, moats and distinctive 55-metre-high tower of Osaka Castle Park stand out for miles around amid the city’s modern landscape. You can while away hours exploring the historical complex, from the lavishly restored tower – keep an eye out for the golden dolphins and tigers that adorn the roof – to the tranquil Nishinomaru Garden which is home to 600 cherry trees and a huge plum orchard.

Visit Osaka Castle during Cherry Blossom Season

In the spring, Osaka Castle Park is known as one of the very best places in the city to take in the iconic Japanese sight of flowering cherry blossoms and they also have beautiful night-viewing events.

Just to the south of Osaka Castle Park, you can’t miss the striking tower of the Osaka Museum of History. The very top floor houses a full-size replica of the ancient Naniwa Palace and on each of the other floors you can explore a different era of Osaka’s rich history.
