My wife and I have been vacationing on St. Maarten for 15 years, and this was our first time at this resort. The staff are very nice and helpful. They have two great restaurants, one on the beach and one fine dining on the resort. We stayed for seven days which was perfect. During most days we were on the beach which was a three minute walk from our cottage. The CoCo restaurant has great food, friendly staff and the chairs and umbrellas are free to guests of the hotel. In the evening we ate a few meals at the Astrolabe Restaurant on the property, which has now become one of our favorites. The Astrolabe has great food, exceptional service and atmosphere. Orient Village is a 10 minute walk down the street, and very safe. In the village, we enjoyed our pick of over a dozen restaurants and bars. And if that was not enough, our room was adjacent to a pool we shared with three other rooms. What a great vacation.
We loved the hotel. Room was cool a/c and very comfortable. Bed was comfy but squeaky springs, but we still slept well. Everyone at front desk treated us like family, something you don't see in most hotels today! Continental breakfast was very nice!

I had great time there! The hotel is located at Orient Bay Beach which I ranked as my second preferred beach in St. Martin (my #1 is Mullet Bay). The beach offers several water sports. Also, it is very close to Le Piment restaurant (very recommended).
This was our second stay, and we love everything about it. We were able to check in as soon as we arrived (around noon), which seems like more of the exception rather than the norm these days (at least without an additional early check-in fee). The hotel staff is friendly, efficient, and very gracious. They all politely speak fluent English for those of us who haven't mastered even a rudimentary knowledge of French. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from one of Orient beach's most popular spots (Waikiki Beach), and they have an arrangement where hotel guests can set up a charge-to-the-room account for food and drink all day. Better than that, the beach club provides complimentary beach chairs for hotel guests, which could add up to at least $40/day per couple if you had to rent them separately. That alone makes this hotel even more of a good value. Also love having a kitchen/fridge for leftovers and beverages!

Idolem is a small “boutique” hotel operated by a friendly French family. If you are expecting a corporate (e.g. Marriott, Sheraton) this is not for you. If you’re looking for an intimate, quiet, and low key stay then this is it!
The Idolem Residence was beautiful, clean, and really well maintained (see my photos!). It is painted white and looks like it belongs on the Greek Mediterranean. Idolem has a pool, which is a little on the small side, but seems to be rarely used by guests. It turned out to be great spot to sit and sleep or catch up on reading. There is also a family of iguanas living across the road next to the salt pond. The units were clean, basically furnished and very spacious! Each unit had a well-equipped kitchen which saved a lot of $$ spent in restaurants. Air conditioning was installed in the bedrooms, but not the main rooms (generally there is always a cool sea breeze from the Atlantic, so it was never really too hot).
For a slice of St. Tropez in the Caribbean, go to the beach at Orient Bay. Known locally as Orient Beach, this white-sand getaway stretches for more than a mile and has a clothing-optional section at one end. Take the 3-minute ferry ride to Pinel Island, where calm waters make for good snorkeling and safe swimming.
