I used to hotel for a 2 night stay. The hotel is close to Omonia subway and on a central road so my trip from the airport was fast and I felt safe. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly, and also had a great sense of humor. The room super clean, although mattress was a bit too hard for my liking. Breakfast buffer was satisfying.
I needed a hotel for one night while I waited for an airport connection, and the Alassia fit the bill. Clean, comfortable, and centrally located (off Omonia Square, 5 min. walk to the subway station with connections to the airport and all of the attractions in central Athens). Hotel staff were kind and accomodating, and I even arrived early before the 2:00 PM check-in time and the room was ready. Continental breakfast was included, and was pretty good. It's not super fancy, but was exactly what I needed and for the price, you can't beat it. The location, while convenient, is in kind of a seedy part of town but I still felt safe. It's within walkable distance to all the main tourist attractions in Athens as well. Great deal for the money, as long as you're not into super fancy amenities (room service, etc.). Definitely recommend!
In the city centre, Omonia Square is a busy traffic node, where six major roads meet. There is also a metro station. It is home to several large modern hotels, popular with tour groups, and is close to the National Archaeological Museum and the Central Market. Crowds traditionally gather here to celebrate national sporting victories.
