The lobby area and beach are beautiful, but once you get past that, the hallways and rooms are dingy. They look like they haven’t been painted, had the carpet changed, or updated in years. 3 of the 5 restaurants were closed the day we arrived, and the one restaurant we did eat at for dinner felt like a Japanese version of Denny’s but with high-end hotel prices. No one speaks English, and I mean no one. We were in Japan for two weeks and this was the only places we STRUGGLED to be able to communicate with the staff. That being said, they were all very friendly, and somehow, we ended up booking fantastic massages in our room. However, we did end up canceling the remainder of our stay here and moved to a hotel down in Chatan that was cleaner, more updated, and closer to additional dining and shops. Hotel Nikko is an hour drive from any of the tourist areas. Which we thought we wouldn’t mind, but since half the restaurants were closed, there was absolutely nothing to do at night.
