Good Hotel near the A1

Posted 08-Jul-2017
We have stayed at Barnsdale Lodge Hotel several times as it's convenient for driving to Melton and Oakham. Reception staff are very friendly. Some rooms are modern and some old-fashioned, but all have good Power Showers in the ensuite. Breakfast and Dinner are always very good.

Great Weekend Getaway

Posted 23-Jun-2017 on Hotels
A wonderful weekend to get away to the smallest County in England, close to Rutland Water. Design of the hotel with the extended farmhouse had been very tastefully done. The conservatory where we dined was a magnificent extension that is used all year round as it has under floor heating. The food was very well cooked and presented and the staff were very attentive. With such lovely weather, it was most enjoyable to sit in the courtyard for drinks in the Mediterranean temperatures, even late at night. This is a privately run hotel and is well placed to visit Oakham, travel around the lake and there are plenty of walking and cycling opportunities. We certainly recommend this hotel.

Visit spoilt as shower not working at all. Reception just said it needed resetting but too late for us. Food and service good but rather expensive. Carpets stained and dirty on public areas and need replacing.

Hotel needs updating

Posted 26-Apr-2017
My room was very old fashioned and needed a complete update. The carpet, furniture, shower all showing signs of wear. At dinner and breakfast the service was erratic and not organised and although the staff were charming there was a need for training, or more of them. I sometimes feel that if you are a single traveller you are invisible! I enjoyed walking in the garden area and there was plenty of parking.
