Room and bathroom slightly tired ( refurb coming soon as hotel been bought by RIU.) Gardens and grounds superbly maintained. Food choices cater for everyone. Staff v friendly but limited English. Beach superb.

One of the best beaches in the world. Grounds are well maintained, the staff is friendly, and Wi-Fi coverage is excellent. However, the central sitting areas in each bungalow are not air conditioned and so everything in there is rotting and smells so. The rooms don't look like the pictures and the furnishings are old and worn out. All of these shortcomings are easily correctable and a room overhaul is planned.

Beautiful beach
Beautiful gardens and comfortable rooms. The restaurant choices were great and the all inclusive package was exactly what we needed. The best part is the beach - the pool was nothing special but it’s no wonder when there’s a crystal clear, clean beach right at the hotel. I’d stay here again without hesitation.

Beautiful location
Beautiful location & gardens around the hotel are excellent. The bathroom needed an update in the room and very small. We also found toilets near the evening main bar not clean and definitely in need of update. Staff were very good but the fact it is 5 star quite shocked you could not have all cocktails. Some you had to pay extra.

Beautiful beach and fun bar on the ocean with nightly entertainment. The rooms were dated, food was average and the all-inclusive was limited to two restaurants and a beach bar with limited drink options. Seemed overpriced to us.

Great Stay!
My wife and I had a great stay at Diamonds La Gemma a few weeks ago. But we need to make some considerations about this resort: first, this is not a truly 5-star resort. The beachfront rooms are very dated with dark wood furniture, old & stained curtains and need some serious renovations. The beachfront rooms area does not have that light fresh beach feeling. Second, the "all inclusive" package is NOT really ALL inclusive. With only one type of alcoholic drink in each "category"... ONLY one brand of wine, vodka, rum, whiskey and so on. If you want another brand you have to pay extra for it! And not all cocktails are included either. Having stayed at a few all-inclusive resorts around the world, this was a bit weird and disappointing. The hotel grounds are amazing and very well maintained. The vibe is perfect for relaxation and laid back days on a stunning beach. And there's the staff! The staff is definitely 5 stars! They would do anything for you to make your stay pleasant and enjoyable, even though sometimes it seems they need more training. Hats off for Jeremiah at the Tropicana bar! He went far and beyond to make us happy throughout our stay, always with a smile on his face. Thanks Eric at reception who gave us a 4 pm checkout. Olga was also very kind and nice, thanks a lot. Last, make sure you bring enough cash as there's no ATM machine in the resort or nearby. Overall our stay was perfect and we would stay there again! Hopefully, they do some renovations.

Nice hotel on a great location.
Fantastic staff who cannot do enough for you; great location with 180 views to die for; large choice of very nice food. Some constructive criticism: Pity the rooms were dark and needing an upgrade. Some lights didn’t work at all and some worked some of the time (switch needed changing). Asked the reception for assistance, they promised somebody would come but nobody turned up; disappointing. Overall had a great holiday.

3 things were broken in the room to start off with. Room quality was terrible for the price! Worth maybe 100$ if that. Construction going on at the room right in front of us... that was our view.... seriously though the room is same as a 3 Star best western in the USA for comparison. Only the cheapest of cheap drinks are included in the package. Pool was also sad and needs to be redone. Hotel needs lots of improvement and I don’t recommend it for the crazy price they are charging. I know hotels, trust me on it.

Brilliant hotel in a quiet area of Nungwi
Very nice hotel with great staff and lovely location. Deluxe rooms are good sized and seems enough for a pleasant stay. Make sure you plan your stay to be there at La Gemma on any Thursday, as they have an Swahili Dinner at the African Village, with local dishes and delicacies prepared fresh on an open-air environment and you can enjoy live local music and a Masai presentation. Having booked with Expedia, we were surprised to get a VIP complimentary A La Carte dinner in the Beach Grill restaurant - what an experience it was! Go for the Mixed Seafood platter and Indian Ocean Lobster - the dishes were enourmous and fresh - best seafood we had in a long time. We were served by the nicest waitress, Betha, which was charming and all smiles. About the reception and check in staff, we felt that local ones lacked a bit of english, as they passed wrong information (i.e. check out times and availability of late check out) more than once. Kudos to Michela, the italian assistant, who helped us a couple of times and sorted the minor inconvenients. We had a lovely stay and would not hesitate to recommend La Gemma dell'Este to anyone wishing to stay in Nungwi.

Fantastic resort for family vacations
We really enjoyed our stay at the resort. It's well located, the beach is fantastic. The tide doesn't really have any impact. You can always swim into the sea. The food was excellent, lots of choice. There are plenty of activities to do onsite. There is always chairs available at the beach, no need to hurry up in the morning. Staff was friendly and nice. Excellent resort.

Beautiful place
The hotel is located very good, it's not to big and the surroundings are really nice. The beach and pool area is really good concerning food, drinks and activities, the only minus here is that there sometimes can be limited sun-beds, but we only experience that one time during our 8 day stay. The rooms are good, clean and wifi is working surprising good all over the hotel area. The food is acceptabel but after 8 days it's stat to get to much "same-same". Large selection both for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but it's to much the same from my perspective. All in all will I rate the hotel to 9 out of 10 and I'm not giving it 10 because of "same-same" food, it would recommend the hotel to have more "Theme dinners" fx American, Italian etc. to make some variations. Last but not least PLEASE visit the See Breeze Restaurant by the beach, it's fantastic and the some of the best I'v ever had. 10/10 is the score here.

4 night stay after a 9 day safari w/a 10 year old
We booked the resort on Expedia.com with only relaxation and water activities in mind. We were pleasantly surprised about pretty much everything and we have a good number of all-inclusive resorts under our belt, mostly in the Caribbean and Mexico and some in Turkey. We really liked the saltwater pool also. The check in was VERY smooth and fast. Food & staff great. We even found the resort shop to be reasonably priced, which was a huge surprise. Kudos to Expedia.com: we were upgraded to a newly built suite, which also came with an in room appetizer service in the evenings! The suites have an amazing yard, really huge, and beautiful decor, Italian furniture, very tasty and clean. The grounds are impeccable, it's like a botanical garden/museum! The resort offers a running map which was really nice. We thought the price was quite reasonable for this property, with impressive service.

Most relaxing 4 days, wish could stay longer. Spacious and comfortable rooms, lovely gardens, abundant and friendly staff. White fine sandy beach, clear waters, gerät bar on the water. Good choice of restaurants with the main Pavilion restaurant having a wide variety in the buffets. Would need to search very hard to find an equivalent relaxing atmosphere.

Good All-Inclusive Resort
Food and beverage provision was excellent although on occasion the deserts weren't entirely to our tastes. Cocktails were very good. Pizzeria was a pleasant evening alternative. Staff very friendly. The only significant criticism was the frequency with which beach towels ran-out before all the guests were catered for; rain showers probably made this problem worse but there were 3 occasions in 5 days when we could not get towels for our sun loungers.

The resort is absolutely stunning. from check-in to check-out the service was excellent. we have vegetarian and vegan in our family and the food provided catered for all dietery requirements. always greeted with a smile. beautiful beach with security and the sellers on the beach cannot come up to where you sit so you are not hounded to buy. the sunset bar at sunset is stunning with breathtaking view of the ocean. the package is well worth the money paid for the fully inclusive option. we will be back .

Nice hotel close to the beach with beautiful views
Hotel staff were excellent especially as we travelled with 2 three year olds. Our room was very spacious and kept clean with a garden. The grounds are immaculate and beautiful. They need to be regular with replenishing towels and face flannels every day, had to call them a couple of times for this.

Hotel just beside the beach
The hotel is in nice place and the room was very comfortable. Generally all the staff were nice. However, the tap water was not in good condition which I couldn't put into my mouth even to brush my teeth (all the room gets complimentary big water bottles) Food were acceptable but not something I want to recommend my friend. Upon checking out, I was asking the reception about a cloth I left two nights ago in the restaurant. They don't share the lost and found items information each other. The hotel staff went to the restaurant and came back to tell me that nothing was found. Then I saw a one of the staff was leaving the reception holding a cloth which was really alike mine. I was asking the reception about it but he told me it was there for A WEEK. I asked the person at least to show me then I found out it was MINE!! They cannot even make a note for the lost and found item when it was found. What made me dissapoined was they didn't even show that item to me (the item was exactly the one as I explained). Overall, this hotel is nice but cannot expect a lot.

Great room! Check in was an hour and a half delayed. But all in all it was a great place. The beach was clean and super nice. The people selling stuff on the beach were super annoying and super persistent. I had to tell them over and over to go away. Some people liked that though. You know the whole buying stuff that you'll never use or wear again thing.

Racist management
The management at the hotel (the senior management is all white) is racist towards locals and anyone who looks like a local. My friend from Dar Es Salaam was with me at the hotel and repeatedly got stopped by security or staff (apparently he did not look rich enough to be able to afford the hotel) when I asked the staff I was told that the instructions from management is to not let locals on the resort grounds
Thank you for your feedback. The security of our in-house guests is paramount and our guests are identified with the coloured wristband on arrival. If guests do not wear the wristband issued the staff and security will check. We have a very strong local market following and we employ over 500 local staff with a number of local staff in senior management and supervisory positions. We also work very closely with the local community on a number of key projects. For the security of our in-house guests we cannot just allow anyone to come in the resort unannounced. The challenge we face is the control and access of external guests that visit the resort without prior notice and this is a daily challenge with people trying to use our facilities for free. All external guests have to check in at reception, pre pay for the day use of the resort facilities and they are given a specific wristband that the staff and security can identify. If an external guest visiting an in-house guests bypasses this control the staff and security will check and verify who they are. I apologise if you felt that our actions came over as racist as this is certainly not the case. Kind regards Andrew

We stayed 2 night, April 15 & 16 and enjoyed our stay and the beach. The hotel staff is outstanding. Very nice overall just not 5 stars. Laundry services and can fate cost more than you'd pay in America. I would highly recommend this property if your looking for a beach experience.

Excellent resort and great beach with blue waters
We were very impressed with this quality resort. The service from the Front Reception (Alexandra and Hassan), Housekeeping (Kurwa) to the Pavilion Restaurant (Rehema, Carolyn, Simon, Paul and John from the Egg Station) was truly first class despite the busy season. The golf cart transport throughout this was greatly appreciated. The only complaint that we have is that the mattress was just too soft for our liking.

Nice hotel!!
Our family (with 2 children) enjoyed very much for staying at the hotel & Zanzibar! The beach (sea water) is nice & very close from the hotel room. We stayed 5nights at the hotel, but we enjoyed food, pool, beach, etc. The water near the hotel is so clean that it is just like Moldiv!!

Spectacular
This hotel is beautifully located on the northern tip of zanzibars main island (about 1hr from stone town & airport). It is spread over a large area including lush gardens and on a spectacular pure white beach. pros stunning beach excellent food - lots of variety evening entertainment watersports centre inc free canoing helpful friendly staff rooms are spacious and clean with sea views. they are in keeping with the zanzibarian traditional style - rather than fancy. Swimming Pool is very large but is salt water

One of the nicest resorts we have evervstayed at
A magnificent set up with a great sea line . All in all , an excelent resort in beautiful setting , excelent food , beach facilities , room confort and friendly atmosphere . We arrived after climbing Kilimanjaro and safari in Tanzania ......this the ideal place for a relaxing rest and enjoy marvelous beach front setting . No doubt to recommend and would definetly go back

Fantastic experience
Highly recommend this hotel. The staff is extremely friendly, always smiling and ready to help in any way. The hotel itself is located on idyllic stretch of white sandy beach an clear turquoise waters. The food is excellent and varied so you'll always find something to your taste. The rooms were clean and all of them facing the sea, with direct views to wonderful sunsets. This is the stuff of dreams. You won' be disappointed.
