A beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting. After a pleasant check in experience we were disappointed to find one of the bedside lamps wasn’t working so had to pack up our room and move to another. The young lad who brought out new room keys was very helpful and took our cases to our new room. Our breakfast was very good, plentiful and tasty. I ordered some poached eggs and they were perfectly poached and very fresh. The staff were exceptionally helpful right across the different hotel departments from reception, restaurant to chambermaids.

Quiet with lots of parking. Far far too many dogs, which I'm allergic to. They were in the bar area and in the restaurant. The bedroom smelt doggy. 2 people in 1 room given 1 bath towel and 2 hand towel had to ask in reception for more. 45 minute wait for dinner after ordering. No hot water from 5.30 pm and still none when we left, you had to go to the leisure centre for a shower in the evening and again in the morning.

Great property, absolutely lovely surrounding area! Very lovely staff. Only issue was that the pool was not open as per their opening hours but other than that incredible stay!

A fantastic property in a great location. Pity it needs a bit of TLC as feels a little run down. Disappointed to be told the bar finished serving food at 6pm when we planned to spend the evening there with friends but went into Norwich instead.

The staff were really helpful as they helped with the organisation for my son’s 21st Birthday celebrations. However there was just one let down, we had to wait over an hour for our food to come and then missed one of our guests altogether. The staff couldn’t apologise enough and I’m aware these things happen.

Never stayed here before, always thought it was quite up market. We booked for a weekend away and unfortunately wasnt that impressed. The room was dusty, and in need of being modernised. Evening dinner in the restaurant was awful. The mixed grill wasnt available so the steak was the next choice, it was like chewing rubber bands. We did get it taken off the bill. Weve eaten many places but this just wasnt worth the money. Shpuld have read the reviews first!! The waiting staff were allvery lovely. Breakfast however was really good and staff were great.

It was a lovely break and the hotel was clean and staff were good, the room nice very clean but in places could have done with a revamp as the fittings were getting on a bit… these aren’t period features obviously as in bathroom fittings and furniture.. would recommend staying there though

What a disappointment!
I was so disappointed with the service in the restaurant. I have stayed at Dunston Hall before & I love it there, but this time the staff in the restaurant really let them down. It took so long to be served & then the food was bad, took ages for our meal to be dished up, no bearnaise sauce was given to me & no explanation, when I said I had ordered the sauce, he said oh yes you did & then said they had run out of sauce. I asked for the menu to order dessert & I saw the waiter with the menu in his hand just standing chatting & laughing with other members of staff, he clearly didn’t want to be working that night. You expect excellence at a high end place like Dunston Hall as it is a treat to stay there, unfortunately not this time. I won’t be rushing back there.

We had a premium room but the heating wasn’t working. We moved to another room but it had the same problem. Safe didn’t work. One bar that got very busy. One restaurant, adequate for breakfast but poor quality food (self-serve coffee from a machine). Evening dinner in the ‘Brasserie’ felt like eating in a motorway service station - bright lights and no atmosphere. Some dishes were ok. The Schnitzel was inedible. Saturday night brought noisy parties, audible in the room, with no warning. Not the best.

Very clean; good food; lovely swimming pool. As others have mentioned the rooms are looking a bit tired, and they are in need of some modernisation. Dinner was very good but service was a bit slow - evidently there have been issues with staffing, and there seemed to be a lot of new staff when we were there. Our very young waiter was polite, but seemed extremely nervous, like he was new to the job. We had to wait quite a long time for our dessert, but fortunately we weren't in any hurry and we were happy to carry on drinking our wine until it arrived. We did enjoy our stay, however, and as our room was directly opposite the spa it was a very short walk to the swimming pool - one of my primary reasons for choosing this place.

Good room and Bar staff in evening amenable and good. Breakfast poor - stood waiting to be checked in, but no-one attending, despite been obvious to staff I was there. Hot items all cold. No eggs apart from a few scrambled that did not look fresh...sausages that looked barely cooked. All a bit unappetizing and didn't stay long. At least the toaster and coffee machine worked.

Great location,
Staff welcoming at reception. Generally an unhurried style in the bar and brasserie. Overall the imposing building and quality of rooms were not matched by the service level. On this point it took many telephone calls prior to our stay to get in touch with anyone at Dunston Hall. Something the owners need to look into.

Relaxing and comfortable stay
This was for my partners 50th birthday so it was a special treat. We started with a massage which was very good and had us relaxed in no time. After we had afternoon tea which they catered well for my dairy intolerance, and I didn’t feel like I had missed out at all. The room was excellent (king size superior) warm and comfortable. We didn’t have a bottle opener to open the complimentary drinks, whether that was forgotten/lost/taken by the last residents I have no idea. When I called reception and housekeeping I could not get through. The phone kept ringing which was annoying and had to go to reception which would have been a big annoyance if the room wasn’t so close. We decided to have dinner in the bar and the food again was lovely even though the order was wrong they corrected it very quickly.

Generally a good stay as previously. Only issues related to not enough staff. Biggest disappointment was the breakfast was not at as higher standard as in previous visits - often waiting for items to be replenished and the cooked items in the buffet were only luke warm on both days.

The bed had old tissue inside and outside the bedding which was a disgrace, the stains on the covers were disgusting and when we told the reception, her reply was ‘yeah loads of people have complained today’. Terrible

Hello,Thank you for posting a review, following your recent stay at Dunston Hall. I am truly sorry that you had a poor experience, especially with the bedroom. I have spoken directly with my Housekeeping Manager, who has stated that the room would have been cleaned, and checked by a Supervisor, with all bed linen changed, so we cannot understand how old tissue would have come to have been. Please accept my apologies for this.In regard to the comments by Reception, this is wholly unprofessional, and not accurate, which I have addressed with the Reception Manager.Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for the disappointment.Regards,Dean S
