250 Years Old Country Cottage Set In The Rural Village Of Hickling

Historic cottage in Norwich
Golebys Cottage is tucked away on a quiet lane in the pretty village of Hickling, within easy reach of the best Norfolk has to offer. Hickling boasts the biggest of Norfolks broads, where water sports can be tried at Norfolk Outdoor Adventure or boats can be hired for the day at Whispering Reeds. The beautiful Pleasureboat Inn pub sits beside Hickling Broad and there is also a nature reserve further along the water. The superb Greyhound pub is 2 minutes walk away from the cottage. The pubs are both dog friendly. Hickling has a pretty church and there are many lovely walks and cycle rides leading from it. The small town of Stalham is less than 10 minutes away, where the nearest supermarket can be found.

One of the benefits of staying at Golebys Cottage is it's location, as it is also less than 3 miles away from Norfolks stunning golden beaches, that stretch for miles and miles. Hickling is also a mere 5 miles away from the famous seal colony at Horsey Beach, which is a wonderful sight. Historic Norwich, the seaside towns of Cromer and Great Yarmouth, plus the Broads capital, Wroxham, are all within 35 minutes drive.

The cottage is a real home from home, combing old charm with modern living. Entry is via a stable door that leads to a small porchway. From here is a cosy, open plan living room, featuring a multi fuel burner, open beams, Smart Tv and a hi-fi system with DAB Radio. Welcome baskets of coal, wood and kindling are provided free of charge, as are books, games and DVD's for relaxing evenings in. The living room also has underfloor heating.

The country kitchen includes a large oak table, wall oven, electric hob, microwave, integrated dishwasher, fridge freezer and washer/dryer. The cupboards are extremely well equipped, with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. Some non-perishable ingredients are also included, and we also supply an iron, plus ironing board. This room also benefits from underfloor heating.

The bathroom features a full sized bath, walk in shower, electric wall heater and electric downpour fan heater.

Upstairs, the master bedroom is furnished with an antique style Victorian brass bed, storage wardrobe, chest, bedside tables and a radio alarm clock with built in phone charger ports. This room also boasts underfloor heating.

The second bedroom has twin beds, a Tv with integrated DVD player, radio alarm clock with built in phone charger ports, storage wardrobe, chest and electric wall heater.

The cottage has a fully enclosed, secluded, country garden, which is a riot of colour in the spring and summer. The patio table and chairs are perfect for outside meals, or relaxing in the garden. There is also a barbecue for guests to use and a shed for bicycle storage.

All bedding, towels, electricity and underfloor heating are all included in the price, as is the free wi-fi throughout the cottage. We charge no extra for well behaved pets, but only ask they remain downstairs at all times during the stay. From April to the end of October our changeover day is Saturday, with a minimum 7 nights stay. From November to the end of March our minimum nights stay is 3, with a more flexible start date. Our minimum nights stay during the christmas, new year period, is 4.

Cosy cottage in great location
This is a lovely place to stay, cosy and comfortable and in a great location for exploring Norfolk. In particular the communication with the owner were fantastic.

5/5 Excellent

Lovely cottage, great pub food close by
Goleby's Cottage is small but extremely well equipped, perfect if you like to have a comfortable base where you spend some time relaxing and self-catering, while exploring the local area and eating out as well. The Greyhound Pub is a (very) short walk and does great food, particularly the fish dishes. A slightly longer 20 minute walk takes you down to the Hickling Broad where we took a paddleboarding lesson with Norfolk Outdoor Adventures which is based just next to the Pleasureboat Inn, great for a drink (not such good food). The closest beach is Sea Palling, golden sand and rock sea defences that provide sheltered bays, with eateries and shops for everything you need on the beach (just don't go on a hot bank holiday when the queue for the car park ticket machine is 50 metres long!). No shop in Hickling but nearest Tescos is 10 mins drive. Norwich is about half an hour away, well worth a visit especially the cathedral, and Burgh Castle / Roman fort was also a great day out with the dog and a picnic (paths and board walk). Thanks to our hosts for providing a lovely welcome, lots of information on local attractions and great communication throughout.

Perfect !
We had a super lovely time at Golebys. The cottage is so well equipped, and in the perfect location to explore. We particularly liked Sea Palling and winterton. Our dogs have had such a great time on the beaches. And we enjoyed the local pubs with great food ! Never been somewhere so dog friendly.

5/5 Excellent

Wonderful property with lots of extras provided by the hosts
A property full of character and very tastefully furnished with all amenities. Very accurately described in the listing and very kind of the hosts to leave tea, coffee, milk and even 2 pots of jam for us on arrival. The area is superb and only 15 minutes walk to Hickling Broad, or 15 minutes drive to the sea. We would not hesitate in recommending this property to future hirers. Message from our dog - thanks for the doggy treats on arrival !!!
