old charm hotel

Posted 07-Nov-2016
Pros: The exquisite staircase.
Cons: The additional cost to use the swimming pool
Location: Great location right in the centre and five minutes walk from Scarborough railway station
This was a lovely old fashioned hotel with a beautiful sweeping staircase and friendly staff. It is in need of some repair and the reception area was literally squeezed into a tiny corner causing a lot of congestion during check in. They have a swimming pool however use of which is at an additional cost (£4 + £1) which I thought was wrong so didn't use it on principle. The majority of residents were older and I think it is best suited to that clientele but anyone wishing to stay there will be comfortable. Location was good. It lies literally off the main high street and is five minutes walk from the station.

An Enjoyable Experience

Posted 21-Oct-2016
Pros: Comfortable clean room and lounge areas. Overall, a good hotel in a good location.
Cons: No complaints at all
Location: Town centre and sea front just a few minutes walk àway but quite a climb down to sea level. There is a lift nearby though so not a problem.
We only stayed one night at the Royal Hotel but wish we had been able to stay longer. The staff were very polite and helpful and our room was lovely and very spacious. Breakfast was very nice with lots of choice. We will certainly stay here again in the future.

Great Location

Great Location for beach, amusements and shopping. No car park but local NCP was only £7 for 24hrs parking and hotel gives 50% off voucher towards this cost.

Beautiful traditional hotel

Posted 02-Aug-2016 on Hotels
A beautiful traditional hotel with a magnificent staircase leading to the guest rooms. Reception area is small but staff were polite and efficient. The lounge area is spacious with plenty of comfy seating and a well-stocked reasonably priced bar with a good choice of hot and cold snacks. It is lively in the evening with entertainment and dancing but also very relaxing in the daytime when you can order afternoon tea and sit by the windows for a glimpse of the sea. We had booked a superior sea view room and were very pleased with the room as it was very spacious, comfortable and clean with a large bathroom. Breakfast buffet was fabulous with plenty of choices of hot and cold food. The hotel does have an indoor swimming pool on the lower floor but I can't comment on this as we didn't have time to use it but I do know that guests staying at the hotel are charged to use it. The hotel doesn't have its own car park but offers half price parking at one of the main car parks in Scarborough within about 4 minutes' walk. The location of the Royal is good as shops, restaurants and bars are "on the doorstep" (we particularly liked the lively Dickens' Bar next door). The South Bay seafront is accessible either by numerous steps or by a long winding ramp or, alternatively, a cliff tram operates during certain hours of the day.

Great Weekend

Stayed in one of the Suits, you need to understand this is an old hotel with lots of character. Its not a marriot or a hilton, its steeped in history and you have to bare with the restoration taking place across the Hotel

Avoid Avoid Avoid

Posted 25-Jul-2016 on Hotels
The hotel was a complete shambles, ignorant staff, dirty room, luke warm food, dirty glasses. no management to complain to on Saturday, on suday when complained they did not care. I would avoid this place like the Plague, infact the Plague would be more pleasant.

Shocking, will never stay here again, until it has the thousands of pounds that need spending on it, staff are rude me unhelpful. Dreadful rooms
