Convenient for the city

Posted 27-Mar-2017
Saw the Minster, climbed the tower, walked 2 kitkat fingers in the city. Walked the wall. Took the ghost bus. Visited the railway museum.

It's the little touches that make it special.

Posted 25-Mar-2017
Pros: Everything!
Cons: Small thing, but a magnifying mirror in the bathroom!
Location: Great location for the city of York.
A three night stay for a family funeral, made much easier and less stressful with a luxurious hotel. Room was a little small (narrow), but still had space for a king size bed and a table and two chairs! Very clean and comfortable. Bathroom was huge, and well stocked with thick robes and toiletries. The only thing I wish they had had - a magnifying mirror in the bathroom! It was the little touches that made it special - the 'tuck box' in the room (re stocked daily with chips [crisps], chocolate biscuits and candy), and a mini fridge with fresh milk for the essential morning cup of tea in the delightful china mugs! Staff went out of their way to help you. The sitting areas were large and comfortable. The garden room where we had coffee and cookies was busy, but you did not feel as if you were all squashed together and the high ceilings made for very little over heard conversations. Parking was easy, they have their own lot. A daily charge, but there were plenty of spaces available, and once we had parked up, we didn't use our car until we checked out. Check out was smooth, and we were given water for our journey along with a delightful tin of old fashioned mint imperials - as I said, it was the little things that made it special. We would stay here again for sure, and highly recomend it to others.

Great location wirk excellent view of York Minster

The interior is excellent, the style is subtle but still grand. It is a warm, inviting hotel adjacent to the wall with excellent views of York

Principal York Hotel

Posted 14-Mar-2017
Pros: Well appointed and well run
Cons: They booked us a taxi in the morning with a firm called Silverstream. They never turned up on time so we had to go next door to the station.
Location: Excellent for train travel
The room was excellent, wonderful fittings and attention to detail

Lovely hotel, beautifully styled and the staff com

Lovely hotel, beautifully styled and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. It's very convenient for the centre of York and parking is only £5. It's been recently refurbished and it's very nicely done.

Beautiful hotel, convenient location

Posted 06-Feb-2017
Pros: The staff. They are unfailingly charming, friendly and helpful.
Cons: The lighting in the bathroom needs to be improved--at least if you're a woman putting on make-up. There's also no outlet for the hairdryer.
Location: All of the old city of York is within easy walking distance of the hotel. Don't miss the Minster, but skip the Castle Museum.
My wife and I decided to speak a weekend in York and booked a Jr. Suite at the Principal York. The Principal is literally steps away from the train station--and yet, we never heard a train or, for that matter, anything else from our beautiful second floor room. The entrance to the hotel is modest and completely unassuming, which is a surprise because the rest of the hotel is very impressive: Elegant and luxurious, with high quality, materials in palette of neutral colors.

Could be one of the best in York!

Posted 06-Feb-2017
Amazing hotel. Staff very friendly and genuine. Room beautiful, newly refurbished & fresh with everything you'll need during your stay. Drinks in the chapter house bar are very good. Only 2 let downs where the breakfast which was very busy with overstretched service and the pool/sauna/steam area which is very very poor. Cannot believe they didn't upgrade this area during the refurbishment but it's gross and I would recommend staying away from this area until it's improved. Overall very impressed and we had a fantastic stay in York.

Lovely Hotel in great location

Posted 03-Feb-2017
Spent a weekend at the hotel celebrating my partners birthday. Staff were a great help with helping to organise activities and bookings before arriving. They even left a mini birthday cake in our room. Rooms have been decorated perfectly and were larger than expected/have become accustomed to in Europe. Location right by the train station is handy and within close walking distance of all the main sites in York. The restaurant and Garden room were both lovely as well.
