Wonderful Old Hotel in Downtown York

Posted 15-Jan-2017
Pros: Great location, clean comfortable room.
Cons: The hotel is quite sprawling so better signage to the rooms, exits and facilities would be nice.
Location: Good location right beside the train station and walking distance to the Minster and most other York attractions.
The Principal York is a beautiful, old building that has been very well modernized with all the features and conveniences you would expect of a high end establishment. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We were a little disappointed that our room was located not in the main part of the hotel but rather in the basement of the extension and this meant quite a long trudge from reception or the main entrance and the view from the room was virtually non existent. Given that it was Christmas Week, perhaps we should have expected this! If you happen to be a Beer Lover, the House of Trembling Madness is a must do!

Close to town centre! Amazing staff and room

Amazing location, rooms and staff. Only thing I'd say is air con would be nice in our room as it was rather hot, also room service menu was a little pricey. Other than that everything was amazing.

Nice, comfortable, clean hotel. Lovely bar, great breakfast. Had an issue with the shower in the room and staff were excellent in resolving the issue

Lovely hotel close to everything we needed

Posted 08-Jan-2017
Visited York by train so this hotel was located perfectly being right next door to the station! A 5-10 minute walk took us to the heart of the city so no taxis were needed. We stayed in a suite overlooking the front of the hotel and this was well equipped and spacious. Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat there, but the drinks were reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again 😊

Handy for the city centre and railway museum

Posted 21-Dec-2016
Pros: Staff. Beautiful room. Proximity to most major attractions.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: Railway museum very close. City walls accross the road. Less than a 10 min walk to shops and restaurants.
Superb building beautifully decorated throughout. The staff we of the highest calibre and couldn't be any more helpful.

Beautifully renovated hotel

Posted 20-Dec-2016
The reason I have scored slightly lower than excellent was because our room wasn't ready for 3pm (check in time) and when you're paying £150 for a room only I don't think it's acceptable
