An enjoyable stay at the Principal

Posted 22-Jul-2017
Pros: I liked the wonderful reception and lounge areas and all the staff were so friendly and welcoming at all times. It was a joy to sit in the lounge.
Cons: I liked all aspects of the lounge and the elegant display objects. I didn't see any areas that needed improvement.
Location: The Principal is so well located for York and the Minster and the nearby York Train Station in particular.
I am from Australia and I last stayed at the Hotel in 1970. I had fond memories of my experience and was anxious to stay again all these years later. The whole atmosphere of the Principal Hotel was gracious and elegant. The Terrace lounge had beautiful objects displayed and the decor was delightful. The check in was so pleasant and I appreciated my room being located in the main building. The rooms have been refurbished and are well appointed and very comfortable.

3 days in historic York

Posted 01-Jul-2017
Pros: The ground floor refurbishment was impressive. The tea, coffee, milk and tuck box in the room are free and replaced daily.
Cons: Our first room was a bit on the small side but the staff were very helpful and moved us. For the cost of the room the breakfast should be included.
Location: Just outside the main center but not too far to walk. Really handy for the train station which is next door.
Despite the weather we enjoyed exploring the city center. The York Minster is definitely worth a visit if you have not been before. Plenty of decent restaurants and tea rooms. Would recommend the Teddy Bear Tea Rooms for a Full English Breakfast. The hotel has a good restaurant and bar which is very handy when the weather is bad.

Good well presented hotel, excellent bathrooms, very friendly staff greeting at the car park. Food is very expensive if it is not in your package, breakfast started at £15. Central location makes everything accessible.

Lovely city hotel with touches of excellence

Posted 02-Jun-2017
Our double room had a king bed and was immaculately presented. The bedding was high quality, and the extras in the room (crisp packets and chocolates) were a lovely touch. The bathroom was a bit small, but nicely done. Only real complaint was the lack of aircon (was quite warm while we were there). The staff were beyond helpful, and when they learned my mum had recently sprained her ankle and wasn't able to walk easily, they immediately offered a wheelchair for us to use at no charge. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.

Very convenient upscale place

A good choice near the station and the old town. Excellent staff, everyone pleasant. Small but nicely appointed room. Dining room is pleasant and the breakfast and supper both beyond expectations. Would stay there again.

York Pleasurr

Posted 27-May-2017
Well located near the train station and the Train Museum it's a short walk into the heart of the old city. The staff were very nice and accommodating. The room was comfortable, however there was only a closet and no chest of drawers. We couldn't unpack fully and used our suitcase to hold underwear and other small items. Over all our stay sas great.

Great hotel with parking

Posted 24-May-2017
Pros: Very grand building in a superb position right by the old York city walls. Parking is very convenient (and rare for hotels in such a central position)
Location: Catch the open top tour bus just round the corner. Right by the station and a stone's throw from the old walls. The famous railway museum is v close
Really convenient and nice top grade hotel. You can park your own car there (rare in central York) and it's right by the old walls and short walk into the centre of York. The York tour bus can also be picked up from a stop just round the corner. The eating and drinking facilities looked lovely, but we ate out.
