The Kenton is right on the sea front (the back of the property with the customer car park on North Marine Road). Fantastic view from the rear, overlooking the coastline, waves crashing in, the headland and castle ruins off to the right. It was early evening and quite windy when I arrived. It’s easy to find, the signage stands out. There’s space for a few cars and parking is free to customers. On street parking around Scarborough is free only after 6pm. There’s a few steps up to the back door and the front door is on street level on Queens Parade. The corridor, reception room with bar and dining room were all warm, welcoming and clean. Quite a homely feel to the place. I was welcomed by one of the staff who checked me in. She was really friendly, helpful and polite. I briefly went up to my room as I was on my way to the SJTheatre in town to see a show and didn’t want to be late. I had room no.1 on the 1st floor, it was small but just right for 1 person, high ceiling, nicely decorated, warm and cosy. With a double bed, washbasin, mini fridge, wall mounted TV and tea & coffee facilities. Towels were provided also. I had a private bathroom (toilet and shower) just round the corner from my room next to rooms 2 & 3. Clean & tidy. I didn’t get the opportunity to stay overnight as I had an offer of work the next day, so decided to drive back. I can’t comment on the bed or how peaceful it is on a Friday night, but I didn’t see any pubs or clubs in the immediate area. I’d book again.

Family short break
Amy the host was lovely, very accommodating and friendly. However, there’s no way you can call this a 4* upmarket guest house. I appreciate these buildings are very old and require a lot of funding to run and maintain. However, flaking paint everywhere inside and out, dust webs hanging from all light fittings, mould and mildew and limescale deposits in the shower and bathroom could be eliminated with a little effort. I booked a family room consisting of a double bed and a bunk bed. My son (9Y) wouldn’t sleep on the top bunk as the bed wobbled badly when he was trying to climb the ladder. I checked it out and found the floorboard under the leg closest to the door had collapsed quite significantly. The carpet and under the bed were clean. The wallpaper was lovely, but the room was cluttered with too many trinkets, pictures, mismatched themes. There were a couple of chairs in the room which were nice leather ones, but one covered in a rather dingy ill fitting chair cover. Another wooden chair covered in a floral chair cover. On a hygiene level these together with the sequin throw on the bed would be better off without. Aesthetically they were not pleasing to the eye. There was a wonderfully stylish resin table in the corner of the room. No plug sockets near any of the bedside tables. Only 1 on an extension lead and another old type next to the bathroom which doesn’t have a safety on off switch. A small fridge was appreciated however didn’t work. The bar was well stocked.

Had a lovely overnight stay. Lady who runs it was lovely and very hardworking. Room was clean and comfortable, with extras like a bottle of water, small fridge. En-suite was clean and good shower. Was lovely to have parking on site and free tea and coffee at any time was a nice touch. We had breakfast too, which was lovely and good value for money. I would definitely recommend and would absolutely stay there again if I visit the open air theatre in future.

Lovely place to stay perfect location over looking the beautiful north bay all beaches in walking distance, Room was just right for me small & quiet as dnt like big rooms when travelling alone, was clean and so peacefully quiet in the hotel, hosts were very polite & welcoming, and the veiw over the bay is stunning, can only say 1 thing didnt like was the bed as was too hard & uncomfortable apart from that everything was nice and enjoyed my stay thr, i would definately recomend to any1 looking for a stay in scarborough, i will definately go back to this hotel in the near future

These people had nothing to do with the hotel , they were guests , they were not in the bar all night but had come in the morning after a night out , this was not the fault of the hotel , we cannot control instances where guests come in drunk , as you can see we have a good reputation and this was a rare occasion where guests do not comply

What can i say. Owner was away and had left a young lad in charge....the moment we walked in he was very friendly we went up to our room and within a few mins he came knocking on our door. He was polite enough but really was annoying and kept asking my daughter for her name on facebook. He pestered her the whole time we were there and sent her numerous messages saying he fancied her etc. We went out and when we got back we thought we were in a crack den. Drinking popping pills etc....didnt hide the fact at all. We went to our room and within minutes he was there knocking on door trying to get my daughter to go to his room for drinks. This kept happening all the time we were there and we even thought if going home that night so we didnt have to face him. The 2nd night the same again only at about 1 to 2 am there was shouting screaming crashing sounds fighting outside for a good 2 hrs and kept usvawake. Frankly i would like a refund as me my daughter and 13 yr old grandson were scared to stay and wevsneeked out at 4 in morning. We left keys on bar andcwas met with a man asllep on couch. Not good and very very disappointed

Nice hotel
When we first arrived there was a mix up with the rooms, we had booked a sea-view room but were put in a room overlooking the road behind the hotel. After pointing this out to Amy, she quickly sorted it out for us to be in the correct room after the first night, which was fine, we were at a concert that night, so didn't spend much time in there anyway. We moved to the sea-view room the next day and had no problems after that. The room was clean, the shower worked perfectly, the bed was comfy and the view was perfect. Our bin was emptied every day and coffee, milk and biscuits topped up. There was no cooked breakfast, but you could get toast and hot drinks, and it was nice not to have to get up at a certain time to get down for breakfast. We found a little cafe a few minutes walk away and had breakfast there when we wanted to. All-in-all we enjoyed our stay at The Kenton and will definitely book there again next time we go to Scarborough, although next time we'll book direct with the hotel and not through a booking website to ensure we get the right room.

On the surface the property apoeared clean, but once you start looking the property was unclean. It is obvious that the owner does not live on site. Shane about the lack of breakfast. I don't think i woukd stay here again.

Large spacious family room overlooking the sea and the castle. Access hole in the ceiling in the shower room covering. No cooked breakfast. Free parking. Convenient for North Bay attractions.

Parking is difficult for large cars as car park narrow. We wrongly believed private bathroom to mean en-suite so unexpectedly had to creep out in our PJ’s middle of the night. Wasn’t really a problem tho as nobody else seemed to be on our floor. Cleaning in room and and bathroom could have been better. Tea/coffee in room was plentiful. Lady running the place was super friendly and helpful. The room served its purpose for us visiting the Open Air theatre which is a short walk away. Fab location overlooking the beach.
