Perfect in every way

Posted 05-Feb-2016
Cons: There could have been some music in the relaxation room, the jacuzzi could have been warmer. Partner wold have liked a bigger choice of men's magazines
We only stayed here for one night but everything about this hotel was spot on. All staff were friendly and attentive, especially Wayne the doorman. The spa treatments were great, as were the cocktails.

Best choice in York

Posted 04-Jan-2016
Pros: The quality of the rooms and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.
Cons: It would be good if the hotel could find a way of bringing down the daily parking charge but there are obvious challenges given the central location
Location: Very central location with puts almost all of York's many attractions within very easy walking distance.
We stayed for 3 nights between Christmas and New Year. Our De Luxe room was spacious and comfortable but being on the 4th floor was not as good as our previous stay in a room on the 3rd because the height of the main window meant that the view was more restricted. As rooms seem to be allocated depending on which one has most recently been cleaned and prepared for new guests it would be worth holding out for a floor other than the 4th. The continental breakfast is slightly more limited in choices than in other hotels of comparable standard and the coffee is weaker than many people might like but it is ok and the restaurant is a lovely room. We ate one dinner in the restaurant, which was excellent and the wine list offers a good choice and is reasonably priced. There is an option of bar meals but we felt that the layout of tables and chairs was unsuitable for eating comfortably, so we changed our mind and ate out on the evening we had intended to have a bar meal. The spa was enjoyable and relaxing, with a reasonable pool if one likes to swim for exercise. The gym is a bit more than basic.

Nice hotel close to town centre

Posted 23-Dec-2015
Initially very impressed with everything until I came to go to bed and found small shrouds of glass on my side under the duvet I phoned the consierg who send he would send housekeeping up along with the manager the two ladies who came were very apologetic but the man Graham I believe he was called tried to say it was my bottle of water for the night that had been smashed I told him the glass was too thin and also that my bottle was over on the other table in the end one of the ladies said she though it may have been a contact lens anyway whatever it was I did feel a little bit awkward with the situation and I do think maybe a five star hotel should be a bit more customer savvy I got the distinct impression they thought I'd put the glass there myself in order to get a room upgrade or similar!!!

Nice hotel close to the City Centre

Posted 21-Dec-2015
Pros: The room and leisure facilities
Cons: Atmosphere at the reception desk, slightly dull, not inviting although staff professional but rigid. Atmosphere in the bar area and lower tables
Location: Very good location for site seeing around the city attractions
Relaxing and very comfortable, perfect for site seeing in the city. Hotel environment very nice but atmosphere and background music in the bar could be more inviting. Sadly service with food ordered in the bar was not satisfactory. Service at breakfast was rather rushed and a situation embarrassing.
