Homey place with a five star view

Posted 28-May-2015 on Hotels
We spent two nights at the Miricia while visiting friends. Overall it was a great experience. The location is fantastic, on a cliff looking over the ocean, less than ten minutes walk to Scarborough Castle. We had a gorgeous view of the whole north bay from our room. It's a fifteen to twenty minute walk to town or to the south beach, some of which is pretty hilly. We took a taxi from the train station (and back) and I definitely wouldn't want to walk that with luggage, but if you're moderately fit, it's not a problem without bags. The room was small, but we were impressed by how much thought had gone into the furnishings and arrangement. For example, the tiny ensuite bath had plentiful shelves so we could stash our shampoo and so on, even though space was tight. The comfortable bed included excellent, swiveling reading lamps. The decor was pleasant and homey. There's a nice lounge on the ground floor, too. Joanne, the proprietor, is friendly and patient. I can't imagine cooking breakfast to order for a couple of dozen guests every morning, but she seems unflappable! Another review mentioned that it would have been nice if breakfast started a bit earlier than 8:30 and we agreed, but given the circumstances I completely understand. Our one complaint was that the room smelled of fresh paint. This could have been a much bigger problem, but we were able to open the window and deal with the issue.

Lovely stay

Comfy beds and enjoyable stay. Breakfast was lovely, lots to choose from. The rooms were a little run down, had a crack in our window etc but nothing which made the stay unenjoyable
