Old and quaint but a little stayed

Posted 18-Dec-2016
Pros: It was central to our needs, clean, tidy well turned out and pleasant staff and good food especially the bacon
Cons: Comfy seating in the rooms and a lift to all floors
Location: York is a 15 minute walk from this hotel, all that you want to see in historic York, please be advised most shops in York don't open till after 10
The hotel was easy to find, the room was of good proportions and the bed a large size was comfortable, the room only had one hard chair which was not there for relaxing on a nice comfy sofa chair would be an excellent addition yes it would cut down the space in the room but if your spending any time in the room the bed is the only comfortable thing to sit on. The cupboard and hanging space wrestling excellent the best I have ever seen. Limited parking is estate agents speak for very limited and tight parking, although there is parking out on the street along side the hotel. We found the staff helpful smartly turned out and pleasant to deal with. The breakfast both morning were excellent. If you struggle with stairs the ask for a ground floor room as this hotel has no lift at all and just to confuse everyone they decided to paint the stairways the day we were there which meant we had to find different ways to get up and down to our room. The corridors were correctly barriered off but no signage for redirection.i ended up on the two floor and had to ask one of the hotel workers how to get back to my room. The hotel was central to our needs over the 2 days stay that's why it was chosen, would we go back? No next time I will book a hotel with a lift. The hotel was clean tidy food and staff that we encounter were fine.

Beautiful rooms, wonderful staff and close to town

Posted 03-Nov-2016
Pros: After a long journey we arrived to find Expedia had booked a room that was not available an d after being informed of their mistake they never rang to inform us. Despite 4 confirmation emails Expedia then refused to honour their commitment and I was never even given an apology over the phone. I WILL NEVER USE EXPEDIA AGAIN and highly recommend u don't!! Fortunately for us the owners and staff of Hotel Noir are top-class and they moved us to the 4-poster bedrooms for the night which are gorgeous. I can't say enough nice things about every member of staff we met during our stay. Friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay a pleasure. The family room the following night was equally wonderful. Hotel's located close enough to walk to city centre or catch the bus which is dirt-cheap. I will recommend this hotel to everyone I know that visits York. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, Hotel Noir is the nicest hotel we stayed in on our holiday and again strongly suggest if u head to York stay here. I again advise DON'T USE EXPEDIA, their behavior for a billion dollar company was disgraceful but the staff at Hotel Noir soon put a smile on our faces and made for a lovely visit.
Cons: I can honestly say there was nothing we could complain about. Rooms are spotless and beautiful and the staff were second to none.
Location: 10 minute walk to city centre and the bus was £7 for the 3 of us to use a day pass. Close to everything with a pub next door and shop across the road.

Fair price - good location - ideal for couples

Posted 31-Oct-2016
Pros: Cheap upgrade to superior room on arrival offered (and accepted!) - clean and comfortable - helpful and polite staff.
Cons: The bar was disappointing for the real ale enthusiast but that is all.
Location: Ideal location and a reasonable walk to the Minster and the Shambles area - about a mile.

Room smaller than ones I have stayed in at Hotel Noir before. However standards & service as always excellent. My first choice when staying in York.
