Beautiful rooms, wonderful staff and close to town

Posted 03-Nov-2016
Pros: After a long journey we arrived to find Expedia had booked a room that was not available an d after being informed of their mistake they never rang to inform us. Despite 4 confirmation emails Expedia then refused to honour their commitment and I was never even given an apology over the phone. I WILL NEVER USE EXPEDIA AGAIN and highly recommend u don't!! Fortunately for us the owners and staff of Hotel Noir are top-class and they moved us to the 4-poster bedrooms for the night which are gorgeous. I can't say enough nice things about every member of staff we met during our stay. Friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay a pleasure. The family room the following night was equally wonderful. Hotel's located close enough to walk to city centre or catch the bus which is dirt-cheap. I will recommend this hotel to everyone I know that visits York. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, Hotel Noir is the nicest hotel we stayed in on our holiday and again strongly suggest if u head to York stay here. I again advise DON'T USE EXPEDIA, their behavior for a billion dollar company was disgraceful but the staff at Hotel Noir soon put a smile on our faces and made for a lovely visit.
Cons: I can honestly say there was nothing we could complain about. Rooms are spotless and beautiful and the staff were second to none.
Location: 10 minute walk to city centre and the bus was £7 for the 3 of us to use a day pass. Close to everything with a pub next door and shop across the road.

Fair price - good location - ideal for couples

Posted 31-Oct-2016
Pros: Cheap upgrade to superior room on arrival offered (and accepted!) - clean and comfortable - helpful and polite staff.
Cons: The bar was disappointing for the real ale enthusiast but that is all.
Location: Ideal location and a reasonable walk to the Minster and the Shambles area - about a mile.

Trendy hotel, shame about the function.

Posted 18-Sep-2016
Pros: Quality of the room
Cons: Hoteliers need to understand. Leisure guests and wedding receptions mix as well as oil and water. Choose one and stick to it.
Location: It's a short walk in to central York
Having driven for over 4 hours looking forward to a leisurely dinner I was more than annoyed to be told that if I wanted dinner that night that I had to eat by 6:45 as they had a wedding or function booked in the restaurant. And then when I turfed up in the bar at 6:45 there was a bit of bad tempered huffing and puffing and flapping around by some of the staff. I was more than happy to sit at a table in the bar away from their function and enjoy my meal. Which I did. Eventually. The Noir is one of those small hostelries that could do with the same care and attention being lavished on staff training as has been done on the rooms. All very black & white and trendy with good fittings, very comfortable bed and well thought out bathroom with powerful shower. The hotel is in a good location for walking or catching local buses into central York. All good stuff. It has a small car park which isn't big enough to accommodate a full house of car drivers. I had to park on the street. The staff that were there, apart from the brief huffy puffy few minutes on my arrival day, were friendly and helpful but there seemed to be a distinct lack of any one person actually being in charge which reflected in the service.Breakfast was charged at £10 if you pre-booked and £12.50 if you didn't. All views are IMHO.

Lovely hotel

Enjoyed my stay at Hotel Noir. The staff were friendly, the room was clean and it was close to the centre- about a 5 minute walk. Would definitely stay again.

No service. No welcome. No return.

The worst 'stay' of my life. I had been in the UK for a week when I had the misfortune to choose this hotel. I was thrown out on the street after 3 hours and was given no reason. My money was not returned to me and I had nowhere to stay as it was a bank holiday weekend. Hardly the start to my UK adventure that I was expecting. Welcome to Broken Britain.

Dear Janet It is simply untrue to suggest you were "thrown out on the street... and was given no reason". Your partner had, very loudly, in front of our other guests, used extremely unpleasant language and threatened to kill the hotel manager - apparently just because you were unable to park your car in our car park and couldn't see the Minster from your bedroom window. Your behaviour was so appalling that we had to call the police to have you ejected from the building, for the safety of our staff and other guests. You were well aware of why you were asked to leave, and it is very disappointing, but not surprising, to see you suggest otherwise in your review. In 8 years of the hotel being open, you are only the second guest whose behaviour was so disgraceful that you had to be ejected from the building. Matthew, Hotel Noir reception manager
