Trendy hotel, shame about the function.

Posted 18-Sep-2016
Pros: Quality of the room
Cons: Hoteliers need to understand. Leisure guests and wedding receptions mix as well as oil and water. Choose one and stick to it.
Location: It's a short walk in to central York
Having driven for over 4 hours looking forward to a leisurely dinner I was more than annoyed to be told that if I wanted dinner that night that I had to eat by 6:45 as they had a wedding or function booked in the restaurant. And then when I turfed up in the bar at 6:45 there was a bit of bad tempered huffing and puffing and flapping around by some of the staff. I was more than happy to sit at a table in the bar away from their function and enjoy my meal. Which I did. Eventually. The Noir is one of those small hostelries that could do with the same care and attention being lavished on staff training as has been done on the rooms. All very black & white and trendy with good fittings, very comfortable bed and well thought out bathroom with powerful shower. The hotel is in a good location for walking or catching local buses into central York. All good stuff. It has a small car park which isn't big enough to accommodate a full house of car drivers. I had to park on the street. The staff that were there, apart from the brief huffy puffy few minutes on my arrival day, were friendly and helpful but there seemed to be a distinct lack of any one person actually being in charge which reflected in the service.Breakfast was charged at £10 if you pre-booked and £12.50 if you didn't. All views are IMHO.

Lovely hotel

Enjoyed my stay at Hotel Noir. The staff were friendly, the room was clean and it was close to the centre- about a 5 minute walk. Would definitely stay again.

Nice hotel on the Green

Posted 08-Aug-2016
Pros: Staff very friendly and welcoming. Comfortable bed.
Cons: Very small room. I was solo in a double room - far too small for a couple. Could hardly manage to sit on the loo - had my face in the wash basin!
Location: York is great - excellent restaurant at No 8 Gillygate.
Everything is black and white as the name suggests, much better than the twee-ness of how it used to be some years ago. Excellent breakfast.

Chic hotel, 15 min walk to York Minster

Posted 15-Jul-2016
Pros: Everything.
Location: All that there is to do in the Minster
Chose one of the less expensive rooms, described as compact. It was clean, very adequate, coffee maker and hot water jug, shower pressure was marvellous. A jug of fresh milk in the fridge. Decent size mugs and wine glasses in the room. Although close to a main road the noise was minimal. The food in the restaurant was delicious.

Nice clean and modern hotel

The hotel was about a 15 minute walk from the city centre, it was along a straight walk so you can not get lost. The room was very clean, stylish and comfortable, the only down side is the room is a little small but that didn't bother me.

Dodgy breakfast but friendly staff. More like a bed and breakfast than a hotel.

Friendly Place

Posted 02-Jul-2016
Just returned from a mid week break. The hotel was very clean and welcoming. All staff were friendly and helpful. The walk to the centre takes about 15 minutes but seemed closer every time we walked it. The breakfast was excellent, the both agreed it was the best we have ever had ( continental and full English) I would definitely stay again.

The room was too expensive for what you get, the room was small and not not very welcoming, the staff were lovely just a shame about the room.
