terrible

Posted 20-Mar-2017
i was put in the basement and the window was practically on the ceiling. I would have had to climb on the table to see out of the window but the table wasn't sturdy enough for me to do that. The tv didn't work so they brought a spare one in and put it on a chair in the corner of the room. The only good thing I can say about this place is that the maintenance man was lovely

fabulous building but needs money and tlc spending

Posted 17-Mar-2017
Checkin at this hotel is diabolical with massive queues stretching right through the foyer. Many people complaining about the long wait. Mainly due to the very small reception. After complaining to the duty manager about the cleanliness of my room and the fact that my initial requests were not met i was moved from a basement room to a room that met my requirements. (2007) to (408). Sea view and smoking. The hotel is desperate for money being spent on it to bring it back to its former glory. Its fabric looks tired and for such an iconic building it deserves to have some serious money spent on it.the rooms need upgrading. They are small and cramped. But saying that the bed was comfortable and bedding was clean. The critisism of the first room was that i had asked for a smoking and sea view. I was placed in the basement with no view and no smoking. The only smoking was outside in the street. This needs resolving especially in winter. Maybe a purpose built smoking lounge could be developed. Also the bathroom was not clean with previous guests hairs all over the bath and shower. After speaking to reception and the duty manager who were very polite and acommadating my room was changed for what i had requested in the first place. Although the tv which worked in the first room didnt in the second. Breakfast was self service and adequate. Though not much choice for vegeterian the full english was good. Small plates cups and glasses meant a lot of tooing and frowing. But adequate.

Pros: The architecture
Cons: Needs a bit more TLC ,but in there defense the maintenance men are constantly busy
Location: Excellent location ,centrally situated
Staff were very friendly they take a lot of pride in the old girl ,which shows in there service
