Great hotel in beautiful setting

Posted 24-Apr-2016
Pros: Most of the staff are very welcoming and seem happy at their work The bedroom is clean and roomy and the temperature is at a pleasant level .
Cons: The hot food area nowhere near large enough
Location: There is a lovely pub in the village that has good food and cheery staff.Places of interest nearby are Ampleforth Abbey, Coxwold and Dutch House,Cryke
Second visit to this hotel . Reception staff always welcoming and helpful . The breakfast had plenty of choice both hot and cold food. Unfortunately the hot food area was too small. The bacon was in a not very large dish and as soon as the waiter brought the dish from the kitchen it was emptied by guests waiting for it, The waiter spent all his time going back and forth - and didn't look too happy about it. The guests turning up at the table with no bacon and other guests telling them the waiter was bringing more soon , didn't seem too pleased but it might have helped if the waiter had apologised for the wait and not look as though he was doing job he didn't want to do, There was a large container for scrambled egg which would have been better used for bacon.

Lovely location

Posted 28-Mar-2016
This hotel is in a lovely location, very secluded and with beautiful scenery. The food we had in the restaurant was brilliant and not overly expensive. The pool area could do with some attention in areas to make it even better including getting loungers which are not flat on the floor as it was extremely different to get in them/ out of them.

Nice hotel but not worth the money

Posted 19-Feb-2016
Room was nice, complained with the first room as was small and overlooked fire escape and was moved to a family room which was nice. Service in the restaurant was very slow and the same for breakfast but the food was reasonable. The pool was very busy although I do appreciate it was half term but I had to wait for a locker as none free. Overall I think it's expensive for what you get, there are other hotels that are better quality for this price

Lovely quiet country hotel

Posted 15-Feb-2016
Pros: Location, facilities, choice of food.
Had a lovely couple of days here visiting with a friend, just for a relaxing break; we certainly had that. Fabulous hotel with wonderful amenities including a fantastic spa, and really nice food. A bit of the beaten track, which is good, as it is lovely and quiet, but close to York and Harrogate for sight seeing. Staff, on the whole, extremely pleasant, and rooms very comfortable. Will definitely be back.

Little bit dated, not great customer service

Posted 24-Nov-2015
Pros: Some of the seating areas dotted about are really quirky and interesting which I liked. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming.
Cons: Basic customer service, room service food options.
Location: Good for the A1 - we were staying the night on a trip south from Newcastle to Bristol.
We chose this place hoping for a night of luxury with spa, swimming pool and fine dining. We arrived about 6pm, aiming to get to the the pool before having a late dinner. We were given the pool times which said it closed at 8pm, last entry 7.30pm. After getting to our room we phoned down to the spa area to check what we needed to bring in the way of towels etc. only to be told not to bother as they were closing at 7.15 - little bit disappointing as they don't open until 8am and we needed to hit the road early in the morning. After that we decided against spending lots of money in the restaurant and went for the lighter options available on the room service menu - I went for what was described as "brie and roasted red pepper with red onion in a toasted baguette." What I got was brie and some super garlicy hummus - not what I would have ordered given the choice and I've never been in the situation where what you order is just completely not what you get - not a roasted red pepper or red onion in sight! My partner went for a mozzarella and tomato sandwich - it arrived on slightly stale bread, with huge amounts of butter. We were glad we didn't go for the restaurant given the quality of such simple food choices. We ordered drinks at the same time which didn't arrive with the rest of the food and had to phoned for separately. All in all we left disappointed and glad we were only staying for a night. O
