A nicely converted former country residence with modern facilities. We stayed in a quiet annex double room that was very well turned out, comfortable and having a very warm bathroom with a heated floor! Hotel cleanliness and service excellent. The detached restaurant serves gourmet food and we enjoyed a very good evening meal. I think it would benefit the hotel if it could offer a non gourmet alternative menu but maybe this is not possible/desirable here.
Overall a good, value for money stay and a good touring location.
Great stay at the Barnstaple Hotel - as always.
Room was a little to warm - due the the sun !
Bed a little too soft - but slept like a baby !
Food good - swimming pool lovely
A great stay - wish we could have stayed longer.
Lovely Hotel, in brilliant location. Close to Town Centre and all amenities, and a brilliant base for exploring all of North Devons treasures.
Big Car Park with plenty of lighting.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much hassle.
Room was very classic in style with a very modern bathroom, with a lovely bath and shower. All beds were comfy with brilliant white sheets and duvet sets.
The only down sides were mould marks on the ceiling in the bathroom, the room really wasn't big enough for the 2 'Z' Beds we needed for our children, (although they fitted in the room, there was little room for moving around) and they only provided 2 cups when there was 4 people staying.
But overall a very nice hotel. And definitely worth a visit.
The hotel accommodation was very clean and comfortable and has free car parking. Breakfast was very good with choices to suit most tastes. The staff were very efficient and friendly. The tariff is reasonably priced considering its location.
After spending the day wondering around Clovelly and tiring ourselves out with all the walking, walking into our room was lovely. It was imaculate, with complimentary bottles of water amongst the usual stuff, a clean, brand new looking bathroom and a warm comfortable bed. We booked a table in the hotel's restaurant for dinner upon arrival and were both very pleased with the food. You simply choose between a 2, 3 or 4 course menu and the price goes up depending. We opted for the 3 course and had really tasty, michelin star'd looking food. Everything tasted fresh and home made. Breakfast was also fantastic the next morning! Staying at the hotel also gives you free access to clovelly itself (if you just go for a day visit you have to pay around £7 per person) and you also get completely free usage of the Land Rover service thats available to take people from the top and bottom of Clovelly.

This is an outstanding hotel. It stands in a commanding position on the edge of Ilfracombe, with good views over the town to the sea. Our room was very well appointed, large and comfortable. Much detail had clearly been carefully thought out during the complete and extensive refurbishment of the hotel in 2011-12. The owners, Anne-Marie and Barry were extremely helpful at all times, and very hospitable. We felt that our stay represented very good value for money.
The east of this varied coastline features the deep 'combes' (wooded valleys) of Exmoor, which plunge down to the sea, most dramatically at Lynton and Lynmouth. Westward are traditional English seaside towns with long sandy beaches (Ilfracombe, Woolacombe). Beyond the characterful towns of Barnstaple and Bideford, Clovelly is a picture-book, whitewashed fishing village, while Hartland Point is known for its dramatic, storm-battered cliffs.
