Truly great hotel

Posted 22-May-2017
Pros: Staff, location, ambience ... all of it really ... would really appeal to golf players!
Cons: Our room had dormer windows and the curtains didn't block out the light completely. Roller blinds in addition to the curtains would have been helpful.
Location: Endless things to do in and around the hotel. We took our granddaughter to Techniquest in Cardiff which is a fantastic venue for all ages.
This is such a lovely hotel in a very convenient location. We have stayed here many times both for business and pleasure - we live in East Anglia and have family in and around Wales so it is our natural choice. We have never had a disappointing stay and the staff manage the balance between being both professional and informal extremely well. The restaurant choice is very good although on this visit as we had young children with us we only used the informal buffet style Olive Tree restaurant. The swimming pool is delightful and on this trip we also tried the crazy golf for the first time and spent a happy hour laughing at our poor performance - what a lovely course!

It was not great value for the money paid.

It was a pricey hotel that charged for parking. The pool couldn't be used and they had done something with one of the lifts that made it smell in the lobby. I probably wouldn't stay here again unless the price is reduced and and they start allowing people to park their cars for free!

Really disappointing hotel, great golf courses.

Third time of staying here and this was the most disappointing. Previously been with friends for golf and from that aspect it has been very good. This time went with partners and was left thoroughly disappointed. The wives had spa treatments which they said were excellent. However no robes in the spa was a surprise. At checkout we were presented with a whopping bill which bore no resemblance to the treatments received. Bill was not itemised so difficult to corroborate. Took 20+ minutes on the phone to the spa to resolve. Dinner in the Olive Garden was poor. It's a hot buffet and at £35 per head I'd have expected better quality. The beef was like chewing shoe leather. Many other options were empty and not refilled. The cheeseboard was awful. And a 10% service charge was automatically added. At a self service buffet! We had our wine glasses filled 3 times in 2 hours. Hardly worth 10%. The staff were lovely but the set up is poor. Couldn't connect to wifi. All 7 of us waited for a confirmation email which never arrived. If it's golf you're here for you won't be disappointed. The courses are superb. All three of them. But my advice would be stay at a local hotel or B&B. There's just too much going wrong here for me to want to stay there again. It's just not worth the money.

We had an awesome time and didn't want it to end. Signature floor with beautiful room, amazing food in the Olive Garden, spa and afternoon tea to relax and refresh. Lovely
