A bit of a let down.

Posted 16-Jan-2017
Pros: Excellent central location.
Cons: Revamp the decor & fix the heating / air-conditioning units. Reduce the price for breakfast.
Location: Right in the heart of Newcastle, immediately next to St James's Park. Easy access to all of the city's facilities.
Given their generally high tariff & enviable central location, I had always anticipated this hotel to be an excellent location for a visit to Newcastle. However, the reality was actually somewhat disappointing. We found that the kitsch facades & decor were starting to look a little tired & threadbare, both in the reception areas & the bedrooms. The (standard double) bedrooms were certainly a lot smaller that the publicity pictures indicated & our room was "blessed" with the noisiest heater / air-conditioner that we had ever encountered; leaving us a choice of either warm & toasty or chilly but quiet enough to get a good night's sleep !! I also thought that the £15 to £18 charge for an English breakfast was completely over the top.

Christmas Trip to Panto

Posted 28-Dec-2016
We stayed at the Sandman while Christmas shopping and also going to the Theatre Royal. It was ideal for our requirements, central with easy parking, not too expensive. Some parts are starting to look a little tired and shabby, staff very helpful.😀

Excellent location, right next to St. James Park

Posted 12-Dec-2016
I booked this as a suprise weekend for my husbands birthday. I called up the hotel to let them know it was his birthday. When we came into our room there was a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale, and a handwritten card which was very thoughtful.

Nice hotel but some problems

Posted 11-Dec-2016
Pros: The armchair and footstall were nice, and having a microwave and fridge
Cons: The shower could have been fixed to avoid flooding
Location: Good location
Nice hotel marred by corridor noise from guests in early hours, lifts not working out at check-out (both of them) and overhead shower leaks straight onto floor. Staff helpful with directions

The Sandman hotel is beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable! I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Newcastle! Absolutely brilliant!
