The world's most expensive sauna!
Beautiful building and wonderfully friendly and efficient staff, but, for this kind of money, I would expect air conditioning in the rooms. I appreciate that the weather was unseasonably warm, but it was like an oven in my room and, although there was a little fan supplied, it really made no difference. I would imagine that adding air-conditioning would be difficult in such an old building, but to justify the price and the rating, I feel it is necessary and, if our summer's get hotter (as seems inevitable), this problem is going to be a regular occurrence.

The rest of the hotel never quite lives up to the jaw-drooping grand entrance hall, but it's still all very impressive. The main dining room gives you an idea of what eating at Blandings Castle would have been like, the bed was very comfy, and the gym/pool are top notch

£300 per night is an absolute rip off for a double room with damaged furniture, cracked bathroom sink, no coffee (they boast a coffee menu with five flavours), and one small bottle of water for two. After ringing reception for over an hour with no response, a member of staff turned up only because the in-room fire alarm was activated ! To his credit, he returned with extra water and sachets of coffee…..all decaf! C’mon Matfen you need to do better than this. Needless to say, despite being a beautiful place, I won’t be hurrying back, I’d like to keep my eye sockets.

Stunning hotel with a very warm welcome!
A beautiful hotel that was beyond expectation. Very good service from arriving to leaving. Room was very clean, the hotel was very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was very good. Couldn’t find a fault with it.

Excellent all round. We’d like to make a special mention to Rebecca on reception who went above and beyond to make us feel so special and valued on arrival. The arrival had improved a great deal generally since my last stay a few years ago as had other aspects of the hotel, including the drinks quality / knowledge and staff service. My only slight negative observation was that through the day if sat at a table around the hotel, staff didn’t come to ask if we wanted drinks. We had to go up to the bars to order drinks. In a hotel of this standard and price you’d expect continuous table service generally in the lounge or outdoor areas. Only other slight observation was the water pressure in the shower in the family room (37) was a bit weak. Overall we had such an amazing stay and the refurbishment is absolutely beautiful. The grand hall was so special especially with the very personal touch with the piano player girl who was amazing and brought a tear to our eye. She also came and spoke to us and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The Emerald restaurant was also incredible and the food, drinks and service was amazing. The spa was great as usual. Thank you for a truly unforgettable stay!

Wedding vs regular hotel guests
I do wish hotels wouldn't muddle up paying guests with weddings. The staff here worked very hard to alleviate the problems but because of lack of space the wedding parties creating a disturbance to regular guests looking for peace and quiet. They did upgrade one of our rooms when we complained but the fundamental problem is you can't have peace and quiet and a wedding!

Attended for a wedding and was pleased to see lots of parking areas. Staff were first class and shout out to Desmond unbelievable! Room needed an update however very clean and comfortable. Retreat is top drawer for an early morning splash. Breakfast good but could be better. Overall thoroughly recommend it.

Excellent hotel, superb food wonderful friendly helpful staff. They could not do enough for you. Probably best hotel I have ever stayed in, in this country or abroad.

We had a lovely overnight stay using the pool, sauna, Turkish and jacuzzi in a very safe way, during the pandemic. The dinner and breakfast were delicious and the service and friendliness of the staff was excellent. Our favourite spot as sitting by the roaring log fire in the great hall with a drink before dinner.

Just lost the edge to be extra special
This Hall is set in lovely setting with large golf course. The hotel room we stayed in was spacious, however it was very old. In some aspects this was grand and special but there was also little details which made our stay slightly less impressive. It such details as the big bulky old CD player in the room, the carpets in the room were very warn and bedding felt old and warm too which doesn’t make you feel comfortable. There was no plug near kettle ended up plugging it in on the floor. The spa was also pretty small and poor really I would not go if you are wanting a spa day. On the hand the evening meal in the library restaurant was fantastic and would definitely recommend if you stay here to have your dinner included.

Having booked a “deal” through you, we were given a Garrett at the top of the hotel, we requested another room, but as we were on a deal they would allow us to upgrade to another without charge but were advised we may hear some moose as it was above the gym. They ere not wrong, 3 hours of it from 6pm Antilles 9 pm fortunately we ate out in between. E had however to eat in the club house as the menu was the same as previous day, and we had struggled to find something we wanted from it. The other*restaurant was inundated with a collection of men drinking obviously prior to some other function

They refused to give me my money back or change the dates for my anniversary gift to my wife because of a website mistake and I want if they understood and said you will need to pay a little extra to change the dates but no just took my money and run
