Nice hotel

Posted 24-Apr-2017
Pros: Central to where we wanted to go
Cons: Lifts so don't have to drag bags up stairs.
Location: Location for us was good central to where we wanted to go
No Lifts so had to drag the bags up two flights of stairs - not sure how wheelchairs would go!

Thank you for your review. We are indeed very central to many areas of Newcastle and surrounds. We have ground floor rooms available for guests in need of easy access rooms available upon request. Kind regards,

Very comfortable overnight stay

Posted 05-Apr-2017
Pros: Quiet location and no road traffic sounds, comfortable room and brilliant heater in your room that you can control yourself for cooling or heating
Cons: I couldn't fault our room, it was perfectly clean with lovely white towels
Location: Quiet location which assists in getting a good night sleep. Short drive to Charlestown CBD.
We only stayed one night as my partner had an eye operation that day and we were returning to Sydney the following day, the Hotel met our expectations in full. The bed was comfortable, and the heater was brilliant. It was a cold wet day and we put the heater on in the room and it warmed up in no time and made us feel even more comfortable. The room is not overly large but more than adequate for a short stay.

A motel rebranded as a Mercure

Posted 21-Mar-2017
Pros: Reasonable value, good location, good room for the price
Cons: The service and outlook of staff
The hotel was convenient with two room doors, one leading into the hotel interior and the other accessible directly from the car park. As we checked in late and the reception was closed, we were able to use the rear entrance with a key the hotel left for us. The room was fine although some of the furniture upholstery was badly stained. Negatives were that breakfast was supposed to be served until 9:30 but when we entered the breakfast room at 9:08 the staff said that breakfast would shortly be closing and started moving tables around us at 9:20. We asked to stay in the same room (we had two separate bookings) and that was arranged - but with a "we managed to do it" outlook. We had a meal in the evening which was quite good, but was spoilt by the fact that the main course took some time to arrive - no problem with that - but then when we asked to order dessert we were told that the kitchen had closed. The staff did not think to tell us beforehand that the kitchen would be closing or that we should order our desserts earlier.

Lovely views from room.

Posted 24-Feb-2017
Pros: Friendly staff, parking convenient, buffet breakfast was good value.
Had a spa room, was very spacious. Bed was firm and very comfortable. Pod coffee machine in room was bonus. Views over Newcastle to the sea from room was lovely.

Close to the city

Posted 20-Feb-2017 on Wotif
Hotel close enough to the city, but with great views. Struggled with wi-fi the first night, which was a bit disappointing as i was there on business. The hotel also doesn't have a lift, so maybe request a ground floor if you have a lot of luggage.

great location

Posted 20-Feb-2017
Pros: Clean, quiet, parking, views.
Cons: The desk chair
Location: Close to Newcastle, close to shopping centre, no traffic noise
Very quiet at hotel, easy parking, close to shopping, town. The staff very friendly and very professional. Great meals with variety to select from. I would certainly stay here again and recommend to friends. Desk chair needs replacing but room very spacious , clean and comfortable. Love the balcony with the view.

Disappointing

Posted 19-Feb-2017 on Wotif
Pros: It's in a great position and the staff are friendly. Good wifi and parking (although not undercover)
Cons: It seems some of the rooms are newer or have been refurbished and some of them are very old and in need of attention.
Location: Central to Charlestown Sqare and lots of restaurants.
We have stayed at this property before and it was great, however, on this trip our room was shabby and in need of repairs. The air conditioning leaked throughout the night into an open suitcase, causing water damage to clothing and personal items. The room was very musty and in need of a total refurb. We booked a Mystery Hotel deal and this room was not up to he standard advertised.

Pros: Don't know.Didn't get to find out.
Cons: make sure my booking is processed even though I did get a confirmation.
Arrived and my booking hadn't come through the system and they were full. They had to arrange another hotel for me.

Ok hotel for 1 night stay

Posted 17-Feb-2017 on Lastminute
Bedding and room was clean. A little dated needing an update. The biggest downfall was the smell of damp in common areas. Staff were most helpful however reception was not attended on our arrival or departure. Would not stay again.
