Had an enjoyable stay, room spacious and clean although the bathroom would benefit from updating. All staff very pleasant and helpful. Grounds great for letting the children run off steam. Overall no complaints and would return if needed to stay in the area again
Nice hotel and quite good value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful. I would avoid room 3 'The Grand National' - actually a disabled room with huge shower room - but the plumbing was very noisy and kept me awake for much of the early hours!
Otherwise a good place to stay!
A real taste of the contry and a beautiful setting. The room was nice and clean and a ridiculously comfortable bed. The food was amazing and staff were on song.
Worth bearing in mind though is that it is a pub, so if and early night is what you are after, there can be a bit of background noise.
I can't wait to go back next year.
This is the second time that we have stayed at the Carnarvon Arms and it will definitely not be the last.
We drove from Edinburgh the first time and between the icy roads, road works and a few accidents, the drive took us far longer than expected and as a result we arrived very late. I called ahead to make sure that we could get supper when we arrived despite the late hour, and the charming manager arranged that the kitchen stay open late just for us - and the food was superb!
The second time we stayed here, we had few documents that we needed scanned and so on and instead of pointing us in the direction of the nearest internet cafe, the staff agreed to help us with everything we needed and did not charge us a thing!
The whole place is beautifully decorated, the beds are comfy and it is always clean. It feels like a real treat whenever we stay here!

The Carnarvon Arms located a short distance from junction 13 of the M4 and close to attractions such as Highclere Castle and …More
This hotel does what it says on the tin; we were in the area for a wedding and it was the perfect location and price. The staff were helpful and we were able to check in an hour and a half early. The room was comfortable - though the bed a little small! - and there were nice toiletries in the bathroom.
Newbury is situated approximately 39 km west of Reading. Vodafone has its headquarters here, and the Newbury Racecourse hosts numerous horse racing events throughout the year. Donnington Castle, a mediaeval relic once owned by Geoffrey Chaucer’s son, is located north of Newbury.
