A posh oasis in midtown Manhattan!
We just returned from our first visit to the Sofitel in NY and couldn't have been happier! We'd be hard pressed to think of something we DIDN'T like about it - the location is a few blocks from Broadway/Times Square - close enough for an easy walk but far enough to be out of the bustle and insanity. A quick cab or subway ride or a lovely stroll can get you just about anyplace else - shopping, museums, Central Park, and so much more. The staff couldn't have been nicer, each and every person we interacted with, and the manager sent up complimentary wine and dessert and upgraded our room when she discovered we were celebrating my birthday. This little bit of extra effort was much appreciated and speaks volumes about the quality of the hotel. They even shipped my husbands suit to us when he accidentally left it in the room when we checked out. The room itself was smallish (although not really for Manhattan) but very quiet and cozy with an extremely comfortable bed and nice sized bathroom with a tub (essential for sore feet). We had several meals in the restaurant and everything was delicious. Pretty sure we haven't had pastries that good since were were in France last. The concierge was very helpful with restaurant and transportation suggestions. Overall, the entire establishment exudes an air of elegance and hospitality without the pretension that usually goes along with it, it was such a pleasant experience! We would return again in, well...a New York minute.
