The hotel is located a short walk from Penn Station, but it feels miles away from the noise and congestion that greets you when you emerge from the station. I like quiet and comfort, and the Chandler delivered both. The room itself was slightly larger than the big-city standard. Everything in it worked perfectly, from the TV, free WiFi, and room safe to the system for arranging a wake-up call. All of the furnishings were in excellent condition and were a notch or two above the norm--granite table tops, exceptionally comfortable bed, and the thickest, softest, most absorbent towels I've experienced on this side of the Atlantic. The term "Turkish towels" used to be reserved for items of this exceptional quality, and just for the heck of it I read the label, where I found "Made in Turkey." If you want glitz, high fashion, and opulence, this isn't your best bet. But if you're looking for comfort and quiet quality, you'd probably like this place. Staff, which includes a concierge, were without exception intelligent and genuinely courteous and helpful. I consider the Chandler as much like a home away from home as one can reasonably expect to find.
