Good value, slow elevators, poorly designed shower

Posted 17-Jan-2017
Pros: See above
Cons: Elevators and showers
Location: Good places to eat and carry out nearby. Transportation nearby. Main stations walkable.
Two negatives give the wrong impression. The rooms are well out-fitted, but smallish (it's NYC!). Terrific "continental" breakfast with granola, lots of fresh fruit, juice, coffee with refills, and freshly baked pastries = good value. Very helpful staff. Good location. All considered, highly recommended.

Excellent location boutique size.

Posted 17-Jan-2017
Pros: The location and the breakfast.
Cons: Has slow elevators.
Location: Near The Morgan Library and Museum, Grand Central, Penn Station, Gramercy Park and a short walk or cab ride to midtown offices and museums.
Excellent location and helpful staff including doormen, concierge, front desk. Night maid refreshes towels and leaves chocolates. Breakfast was particularly good and reasonably priced for a hotel breakfast. Of course one could go to a coffee shop nearby but the fruit platter was freshly cut with a king's ransom of blackberries and blueberries and sliced melon. Freshly baked pastries, smoked salmon, waffles, and pancakes all prepared to order were available along with attentive staff. It was easy to get cab in front of the hotel or a bus on Madison to go uptown and to return on Fifth Avenue.

Delightful hotel ... but small

Posted 17-Jan-2017
I don't think I've ever been in a U.S. hotel as small as The Chandler. Small but it appeared to be very clean. The hotel staff was exceptional -- very accommodating and pleasant. Room service was good -- the food was tasty and hot, and the service was quick. Overall, I enjoyed it and would check it out again for future trips, as it's a $6 taxi ride from Times Square.

Great location to walk around to NYC

Posted 16-Jan-2017
Pros: Very friendly front desk staff. Comfortable and clean room. Great location.
Cons: n/a
Location: We enjoyed walked to Times Square, Fifth Ave, and a bunch of other stores/places.
We were all about the sight seeing - so it was nice (after a long day of walking) to come back to a nice, clean, and comfortable hotel - with a great bathroom!

Nice, clean and comfortable. Well Located.

Posted 16-Jan-2017
Pros: Location. Cleanliness. Comfort.
Location: It is only a couple of blocks away from the Empire State building, Penn Station, and many other attractions.
This is our 5th stay at Hotel Chandler on visits to New York City. We like the hotel for its location at 31st St and 5th Ave. It is just far enough away from all the hustle and bustle of midtown, yet is walkable to many places. We walk everywhere from this location. The hotel has a boutique feel to it, and is clean and comfortable. They offer complimentary tea & coffee throughout the day and night in the lobby which is a nice touch.

Extremely noisy and not true to photos

Posted 08-Jan-2017
Pros: Lobby and lounges were nice, although the bar was too small.
Cons: Concierge was unfriendly! Train staff on how to work quietly/not slamming doors &yelling housekeeping at top range. Have enough teabags for guests
Location: Central enough location but this street less desirable, felt scummy & had constant sidewalk rubbish from restaurants across which was rotten seafood!
Not true to their website photos or star ratings mentioned, small rooms with basic amenities and ripped or torn bed linen put in bed. Extremely noisy rooms with bathrooms for the next room adjoins your bed head, which when the shower is turned on, wakes you immediately or if trying to get to sleep, keeps you awake and suffering from Theroux pressure shower noise until it's been turned off. Noisy and inconsiderate housekeeping staff with their raised voices and constant slamming of doors/cupboards coming through the paper thin walls. No tea making facilities in rooms, have to go down to lobby to make it and when you do, they have run out of normal tea bags and won't buy consider borrowing from other supplies for room service or going and buying some from the supermarket until their next delivery, they tell you that if you want you normal tea you need to order from room service for $6 instead! State they are a non smoking hotel, although we found some rooms that smell of thick cigarette smoke that gags you and makes you want to leave that room immediately. Not worth the money we paid given that we booked this hotel for mostly being pet free whilst still advertising as a 4/5 star accomodation, instead we got a room with foul smells mostly of heavy cigarette smoke and pat best was 3 star accomodation for the price of 5 star. We could have been in well known and rated hotels for less money than we paid here, was smelly, noisy and unprofessional in a lower class street.
