Our room was in the hotel basement. Subterranean. Classified as a Garden View Superior King, we were astonished if not stupefied to discover that our room was below street level — allowing us to see pedestrians’ legs close up.
What’s more, the bathroom would only accommodate one adult at a time — and the closet space was so minuscule that we couldn’t unpack. The room safe was inconveniently located on a high shelf in the closet, which we couldn’t reach without a chair.
We paid approximately USD 500 for the room, fortunately for one night only. The room bore absolutely no resemblance to the garden view rooms showcased on their website. We felt utterly deceived.
There was even a maintenance guy literally working right outside our window while we were getting dressed.
I am a Japanese national and made the reservation in my name and I can only deduce that the hotel, as they allocated the superior kings from best to worst, gave us the basement — after all, “I’ll not complain”……but I did. To no avail.
The front desk staff were at best ambivalent, at worst condescending. We never heard from the manager and there was no effort to recover. Nothing.
The only other alternative room was a SUITE by paying a signifucant difference.
